Buatong had a blast at the river. 🐘💦

With the recent rain the level of water is now sufficient for her to lay down and get up more easily.

She stayed there by herself for a while, showering, moving side to side to scratch her body on the sand,.... until her daughter Bai Boua arrived.

Keep an eye on our next river post to see what happened then! 👀

Archive: A cute video we missed from about 3 weeks ago when it started to rain. The weather was really hot and tons of mosquitoes and bugs woke up with the humidity.
Our 3 ladies seemed really bothered by it and absolutely had to spray dirt and mud to protect their body from the heat and bites.
3 generations having the same exact reaction to their natural environment.

How cute are they? ☺️💕🐘

So you can hear the grass being cut, Mae Lou's flappy ears and her grinding jaw. 😄

Notice also at 8 seconds how she stops everything and listen after hearing an unusual noise (a branch that cracked) .
Mae Lou's is maybe 67 years old but she's not deaf and she's still definitely attentive to her environment.

Keeping our distance while observing elephants.

After a few hours of foraging in the grassland and forest, our elephants have decided to go back home to the camp by themselves.

Come observe our elephant family in their home.

🐾Little Bai Boua is slowly joining her mom and grandma.
🌱Buatong is breaking bamboo to eat the new fresh leaves.
🌿And if you look closely at the back you can see Mae Lou breaking a branch to use it as a fan and get rid of flies and mosquitoes.

🦟With the new rain, bugs are everywhere and elephants are not happy about it, using branches to remove them from their bodies, spraying more mud to protect their skin and scratching on trees or on the ground more than usual.

After planting the Napier grass (elephant grass) last week which has already sprouted thanks to the rain, this week Chi and Da planted more than 20 banana trees to support the food supply for our elephant family.🍌

Even if it can take 1.5 years to get the first bananas, the tree itself is a juicy delicacy for the elephants.

Plus once a tree grows up, the roots spread and give more trees, which is a good source for lasting food.

Now we just have to wait for the rain and sun to do their job. 🌧️☀️🌱
