Pied kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a specie of water kingfiser widely distributed across and .This is a medium sized kingfisher, about 25cm long with a white with a black mask, a white supercilion and black breasts bands. The creast is neat and the upper parts are barred in black.

Behaviours
When perched the pied kingfisher often bobs its head up and down and will sometimes raise its tail and flick it down wards. It often calls with sharp chirruk chirruk notes, unlike some kingfishers, its quite gregarious, and forms large roasts at night.

Feeding
They feed on fish, although they take crustanceans and large aquatic insects such as dragonflys larvea.

Breeding and nesting
It usually breed in February to Apirl, a female lays 3-6 white eggs, which are incubated by both parents for about 18 days.
