Where are my fellow Neanderthals?!
I find one of life’s greatest pleasures is eating a perfectly charred sausage straight off the stick you roasted it on over the campfire.

No plate. No fork. No shame.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who considers this fine dining!

Mother Nature is certainly dressing up for GAF weekend. Who’s heading to the NOC for the festivities? If you’re planning to make a weekend of it, but don’t have a place to stay yet, we might just know a little hideaway about 10 minutes down the road. 😉

We’ve still got a few accommodations, and plenty of room for tent campers.

Come for the fun, stay for the fall colors, and enjoy a little peace and quiet in between!

I found this little guy wandering by the creek today. He seemed friendly enough so I took him for a little tour around the campground. He loved how clean the bathrooms are. The creek he said looks like, and I quote, "meh". I mean, he's not wrong this time of year, but the autumn leaves totally make up for it. I showed him the cabins too and he thought they were fantastic. Again, he's definitely not wrong. We had a good time, but it's really time for him to go home. Do any of you know who he belongs to?

Calling all local history buffs and longtime residents! We know we're the "new kids" around here, but we've stumbled upon a little mystery! This beautiful stained-glass piece is in our Creekside Cabin, and we're curious about its history. Does anyone remember "The Twisted Arrow"? Was it a business? A restaurant? Something else entirely. We’d love to know the story behind it! If you know anything (or even have a good guess), we'd love to hear it in the comments!

Well, this guy has really gotten under our skin...He showed up unannounced, didn’t bother with introductions, claimed a kayak, and hasn’t moved since. Honestly, he's just dead weight. 😂 But we think we'll keep him around! However, we have one little problem. He needs a name!
Help us out! Drop your funniest, cleverest, or most ridiculous name suggestions in the comments!

And if you're DYING to get away for the weekend, we've still got some availability! Come enjoy the fall colors, mountain air, and a little peace and quiet.

What a sky!

After yesterday’s storm, we're checking in on our neighbors. How did everyone fare? We hope you, your families, and your homes are all safe!

All is well here at Nantahala Hideaway! We only had a bit of rain and our biggest cleanup (other than leaves) was moving one large twig out of the driveway.

We know some areas weren't as fortunate, and our thoughts are with everyone who was affected.

Please drop a comment and let us know how things are doing in your neck of the woods.

Where’s my leaf peepers?! Mother Nature is starting to put on quite the show here and it's only going to get better. Cabins and sites still open for October. Who’s coming to see the show?

Hello, Nantahala Hideaway campers!

We're Matt & Lynnae, and as Jon and Janet said, we're the new owners of Nantahala Hideaway!

First, a huge thank you to Jon and Janet. They've poured so much love into this place over the last couple of years, and we're so grateful they trusted us to carry it forward. We hope they enjoy every minute of retirement. They’ve earned it!

We've been campers for about twenty years, which is funny, because the whole thing started with one of us saying "absolutely not." That's a story for later this week. 😉

We fell in love with this little piece of mountain paradise, and we can already tell the people who come here are a big part of what makes it special. Our goal is simple: keep everything you love about the Hideaway and keep making it better.

Whether you've been coming for years or you're planning your first trip, we can't wait to meet you. Stop by, say hi, and tell us your favorite thing about the campground. We'd love to hear it in the comments too!

See you in the mountains,
Matt & Lynnae 🌲

Hi Nantahala Hideaway Campers! We have some important news.

Life changes and we are making steps towards full retirement. Our first step was to part with our beautiful Nantahala Hideaway Campground. We really love this place and our campers but it is time to move on.

We have found a super couple to take over and build upon the work we did in the last couple years to take this piece of mountain paradise to the next level.

Lynnae & Mathew Weller, as of today, are the new owners of Nantahala Hideaway. They will be fantastic hosts for all of you.

We have made many friends in the last couple years here and wanted to leave you in good hands and we feel like we have done that. Come stay with them. Meet them and you will feel the same way.

Good Bye!

Sincerely,
Jon & Janet Anderson
