Title: Embracing Failure, Obscurity, and Grace in Leadership
Hey Leaders,
Let's talk about something that's often seen as negative but is actually crucial for growth: failure. In our recent "Lunch with the Leader," we explored powerful insights that can transform how we approach leadership.
Here are the key takeaways that resonated deeply:
1 Failure is a better teacher than success. It’s through our missteps and challenges that we learn resilience, adaptability, and purpose. Remember the story shared about failing freshman English? Sometimes, those setbacks lead to the most significant growth.
2 Obscurity is a better classroom than the big stage. It’s in the quiet moments, away from the spotlight, where we truly develop character. Like Moses in Midian, it's often in obscurity that we learn humility and true service. What we do when no one is watching is a greater indicator of character.
3 God is at work even when we think He is asleep. During times of uncertainty or perceived inaction, it’s important to trust that there's a larger plan at play. Value isn't always visible, but it's always there.
4 God’s grace is bigger than our failures. We must extend grace to ourselves and others. Leaders, our ability to show grace matters immensely. It fosters a culture of authenticity and trust. Remember, you may fail, but you are not a failure.
We also heard from Lauren Marie Youmans, owner of "Gather and Bloom," who shared her journey from healthcare to entrepreneurship. She reminded us to see “learning experiences” instead of failures and emphasized the balance of high standards with high grace.
Why does grace matter in leadership? Because it allows us to create an environment where people can learn, grow, and thrive. It's about balancing high standards with understanding and support.
Let's strive to lead with both high standards and high grace, building communities of faith-driven leaders and raising the spiritual temperature in our areas of influence.
