There is a sequence of numbers so deeply embedded in the structure of nature that once you see it, you cannot unsee it. 🌀✨ It is called the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, each number the sum of the two before it. As the numbers grow, the ratio between consecutive terms converges toward 1.618, the golden ratio.

Sunflower seed heads arrange their spirals in Fibonacci pairs, most commonly 34 spirals in one direction and 55 in the other, a configuration that allows the maximum number of seeds to pack into the available space with extraordinary efficiency. Pinecones show the same pattern with 8 spirals one way and 13 the other. Leaf arrangements on plant stems follow the golden angle derived from this ratio, optimizing exposure to sunlight. The Milky Way itself has four major spiral arms each following the golden angle of the Fibonacci sequence. The same logarithmic spiral appears in shells, hurricanes viewed from space, and the arrangement of petals across thousands of flower species. 🌿

What makes this pattern genuinely extraordinary is not just that it appears everywhere, but why. It appears because it represents the most mathematically efficient way for things to grow, pack, and expand under physical constraints. Nature did not design it. Nature discovered it, independently, at every scale, in every domain, across billions of years. And the proportions of the human body, the branching of your lung tissue, the spiral of the cochlea in your inner ear, all reflect the same ratio. Hellooo, Hemi!!

Aka, “Hemi” - like the engine, as he will be an endurance horse now! (He was formerly known as Ernie)

Welcome to our herd!!!

After an unsuccessful year of attempting to rehab my endurance horse, Kari, (*sniff*) friends and caring acquaintances were facilitating solutions to keep me in the endurance game (care leases for other horses, purchase options, riding their horses). Thanks to everyone who supported, directly and indirectly .. in action and in thoughts.

My amazing Vet brought me to my new guy!!

I was seeking a good mind and capable body, as endurance brings a lot of challenges that rider and horse have to work through together. I got all that .. and bonus personality and chrome!! Hemi is gorgeous, and so “in your pocket” 🤩 He has been put through a series of stress tests already, and his mind hasn’t left his body yet. Example: His trip home was the 3rd time he’d ever been on a trailer in 7yrs (he thought through it in 18mins). He’s never been outside an arena and rode between pastures of galloping foals without exploding! He was unnerved, mind you, but stayed with his rider. I am excited for all the experiences and miles he and I have together in future!!

Mom has been with me since we first laid eyes on him and has helped make this happen ❤️

It’s a sad day @ the farm 😞

Kari gets donated to Auburn University tomorrow, as she can no longer carry passengers due to Osteoarthritis in every joint and an old injury that has become debilitating.

She will help Vet students learn to treat horses - wrap legs, take temperatures, give meds, etc.

This mare is only 12yo, and has so much life. And - she LOVED to move!! Good news: she is pasture-sound and happy. She just shouldn’t carry a passenger and be put to hard work or she comes up very lame. Auburn commits to caring for the horses thru end-of-life. She will be stimulated regularly by the students and happy grazing most of the time. No one will ride her again. All of this brings me such peace of mind, although I am VERY, VERY sad that our time together was so short. At the same time, I am eternally grateful to the whole new world she opened me to.

This is an eff’ing amazing animal.
I will miss her SO MUCH!
