We love the details. Because really, details are everything. 🖤

We had so much fun creating Raven Ridge Retreat, our Big Bear Lake cabin, and finding ways to add a tasteful little nod to our namesake in nearly every room.

Here, you’ll find a sweet little raven perched above your morning mugs, keeping watch over the coffee station. It’s one of the many small details we’ve added to make our Big Bear mountain getaway feel special from the moment you arrive.

Dark, dated, and a little too cabin-y?

Light, bright, warm, and still filled with all the cozy mountain charm?

We love a beautiful cabin in the woods, but that doesn’t mean everything has to be brown like the trees!

At Raven Ridge, you can look out AT the trees, breathe in the mountain air, and completely forget that the freeways and bustle of Los Angeles are only two hours away, all while enjoying a space that feels fresh, peaceful, and full of light.

Because your mountain escape should lift your spirits the moment you walk through the door.

I’m going to be honest… I have no idea if a single guest has ever actually used this little corner I curated. 😂 But I love knowing it’s here.

A quiet little spot to stretch, breathe, meditate, or just take a few minutes for yourself. No need to tote your yoga mat up the mountain…we have mats waiting for you, along with meditation pillows, warm lighting to make the space feel a little more special, and even a couple of how-to books if you need some inspiration.

Maybe it gets used all the time. Maybe it doesn’t. Either way, it’s one of those little details at Raven Ridge Retreat that makes me happy just knowing it’s there. 🧘‍♀️✨

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Some guests just stick with you.

Chris and Nicole were truly two of our favorites… warm, responsive, personable, and just all-around quality humans. And as a fellow short-term rental host with a beautiful property of his own in the Adirondacks, Chris knows firsthand how much thought and care goes into creating a special stay for guests.

So hearing that they loved their time at Raven Ridge Retreat — and reading this review — meant a lot to us. 🤎

We loved hosting these two and would welcome them back to our Big Bear Lake cabin anytime. And who knows… maybe one day we’ll get to be the guests at their Adirondacks retreat.

So this happened… 👀

We went from Airbnb’s Top 10% of homes to the Top 1%.

And…we officially earned Superhost status, too…again. 🤎

If I’m being honest, the badges aren’t my favorite part. Don’t get me wrong, I’m incredibly grateful for them, but that excitement fades.

What never gets old is seeing that notification pop up after guests have checked out:

“You’ve received a new review.”

Every single time, I stop what I’m doing.

I’ve pulled over to the side of the road to read a review. I’ve told everyone in the car, “Hang on, I have to read this before we go.” I’ve even paused mid-conversation when I hear that little ding.

Because there aren’t many things in life where someone takes the time to tell you that something you created became part of one of their favorite memories.

They share stories about birthdays celebrated, friend weekends that were long overdue, anniversaries, family vacations, and weekends where they finally got to slow down and reconnect.

We read every single review, and every single one reminds me why we do this.

Being named a Guest Favorite means everything.

Being in Airbnb’s Top 1% of homes means everything.

Being a Superhost means everything.

Not because of the badges themselves, but because each one represents a guest who felt cared for, made memories with the people they love, and took a few minutes to tell me about it.

Maybe you’ve been meaning to plan something.

Maybe you’ve told yourself you’ll look at the calendar after this project, after this busy week, after things settle down.

Then one day you realize July is over.

The truth is, they probably aren’t asking for an expensive vacation. They aren’t keeping score of how many miles you travel or how fancy the hotel is.

They are asking if they still get your time.

The hardest part is that most of us aren’t choosing work over our families on purpose. We’re doing our best to keep up with everything life demands, and before we know it, another season has slipped by.

The good news is that meaningful memories don’t have to be big🤎

A weekend road trip.
A day at the water.
A hike.
Ice cream after dinner.
A picnic outdoors.
Even an afternoon with your phone put away can become the memory they carry with them.

The calendar will always find something to fill it.
Summer won’t.

No Thank You Thursday 🤎

No thank you to dark game rooms that nobody wants to hang out in. 🎱

We wanted our game room to feel like an extension of the vacation, not an afterthought.

So instead of a tucked-away pool table in a dim corner or converted garage, ours sits in a space that opens right onto the deck, where you can challenge the kids to a game, step outside for some fresh mountain air, then come back in for a rematch. And did I mention that the record player is nearby to truly elevate your game?

And because we love the little details, you’ll even find a custom Raven Ridge Retreat cue ball waiting for the break. 🎱

It’s one of those small touches that makes the experience feel a little more special.

Because sometimes the best part of a getaway isn’t the big adventure.

It’s the pool tournament that gets way more competitive than anyone expected.

Unfortunately, once you stay somewhere with truly comfortable bedding, you’ll start checking the linens before you book every vacation rental.

Your body gets used to waking up rested instead of waking up hot, tangled in the covers, or flipping your pillow over all night looking for the cool side.

When we were furnishing Raven Ridge Retreat, we learned that not all “luxury” bedding feels the same. One of the biggest differences comes down to the fabric.

If you want that crisp, boutique hotel feeling, here’s what to look for:

• 100% cotton instead of microfiber or polyester blends.

• Percale if you tend to sleep hot. It’s crisp, cool, and breathable.

• A thread count between 300 and 400. Higher isn’t always better because heavier fabric doesn’t breathe as well.

• Duvet covers with a zipper, buttons, or deep envelope closure so the comforter stays in place all night.

A comfortable bed isn’t just a nice amenity. It can be the difference between waking up refreshed and waking up ready to go home.

Save this for the next time you’re booking a vacation rental, or send it to someone who’s always wondering why they never sleep as well away from home.

Nearing the end of July.

One more month of summer.

That’s it.

Before school starts, the calendars fill up again, the holidays sneak in, and we all start saying, “We’ll get away when things slow down.”

But do they ever?

One of our recent guests wrote that Raven Ridge Retreat “beat all expectations,” loved the attention to detail, explored the hiking trails right from the cabin, and even spotted a bear and coyote pups during their stay. Reading reviews like that makes me smile because it’s exactly what we hope a Big Bear Lake getaway becomes. Not just a weekend away, but memories your family is still talking about months later. Things you can’t do at home.

Life has a way of convincing us now isn’t the time. When really…why not?

Sometimes you just have to open the calendar, pick a weekend, and book the cabin.

Whether it’s slow mornings on the deck with coffee, evenings around the fire pit, miles of hiking right outside the door, or simply spending uninterrupted time with the people you love in a DIFFERENT space, a mountain getaway in Big Bear Lake has a way of reminding us what really matters.

Now try millions of stars. 🌌

If you’re planning a trip to Big Bear in August, SkyFest is worth adding to your itinerary. From August 14–16, the mountain celebrates its incredible dark skies with stargazing, astronomy, astrophotography, guided night hikes, family activities, and more. It’s a chance to slow down, look up, and experience Big Bear from a whole new perspective.
