Boone and Blowing Rock are once again open for visitors! Please come support the area's tourism economy!

An important message from David Jackson, President/CEO, Boone Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Town of Boone North Carolina and Explore Boone about the return to Boone and Watauga County:

In the two weeks since Hurricane Helene arrived in Boone and Watauga County, we’ve seen devastation fuel unity and adversity build strength throughout these hills.

This weekend we begin to welcome Appalachian State students back to Boone and our fall visitors are beginning to seek the beauty of autumn in the mountains once again.

Thanks to the tireless work of utility and construction crews, Boone and Blowing Rock have largely recovered from the storm’s impacts. Primary and most secondary roads have been repaired, though occasional lane closures and the need for alternate routes still exist in many areas.

As you make plans to return to the Boone area, we encourage you consider the following guidelines:

🚘 Tread lightly and stay away from the areas that are still deeply involved in recovery and restoration activities, particularly on the northern and western ends of Watauga County.

🏨 We praise our hotel and lodging community for being so immediately accommodating with the spaces they had available in the wake of the storm.

🛍 Many of our retail and restaurant partners are open for business, including those in downtown Boone as well as other popular areas across the community. Please note that a curfew remains in effect from 11PM to 7AM daily throughout Watauga County.

🚌 Consider ride share and public transit opportunities to lessen the impact on traffic.

➡ If you are not yet able to travel to the area, or maybe missed your planned trip over the last two weeks, we encourage you to continue to support our local businesses from afar.

💙 Be empathetic toward those you encounter in our community. Many of our residents are still dealing with major disruption as we are also trying to restart our economy and maintain our local workforce. The store or restaurant employee you come in contact with may very well be displaced from their home and trying to rebuild their life here. Please be respectful and pack plenty of grace and patience.

In many ways this is the same community you saw in mid-September, but in some ways, we are not at our best, and won’t be for some time. Know that you have been an important part of our recovery! The resilience of our community and the outpouring of support from off the mountain has gotten us to this point. Time will not allow us to thank you enough. We only ask that as you begin to return to our area, you follow the guidelines that we are suggesting, to ensure we can take careful and mindful steps forward in the days and weeks ahead.

Thank you to all who have reached out, concerned for our sweet mountain home. While we are heartbroken over the devastation in surrounding areas, we are humbled and feeling incredibly blessed that our house and the Echota resort community did not suffer anything more than minor damage. Our own property only had a few smaller tree limbs down. Additionally, thanks to the literal army of road and utilities ' crews working non-stop throughout the mountain area, our home is now safely accessible to/from Boone, Blowing Rock, and to/from major highways, etc. Our home also has all utilities.. electricity, water, internet, cable TV, restored. The boil water advisory for our community was rescinded yesterday. "Thank you" to those amazing, beyond dedicated crews, and also to area volunteers, does not feel nearly enough, there are not words to adequately express our gratitude.
Again, while heartbroken over devastation, especially in the more remote areas, we are beyond thrilled for so much of the area that only sustained minor, or no damage. Having very little damage at all, the town of Blowing Rock is open and looking like nothing has happened at all! The town of Boone looks similar. In Boone, (having a street that runs through the university and town named "Rivers street "), there are some properties/buildings which have some flood damage, but it is in limited areas, and is not the totally destroyed, washed away type damage that you may be seeing in the media of the greater area. The town of Boone is up and running too!
The tourism industry is vitality important to the entire mountain area, and thankfully much of it is still there, unharmed. Many locals depend on tourist industries for their paychecks..it is a very long list of careers and jobs! Having little to no work right now is devastating to so many locals, many who were otherwise minimally affected by storm damage itself. October is the most important month of the year for local tourism, many businesses depend on October to break even, or to make a profit for the entire year.
Please keep the area and it's local citizens in your thoughts and prayers...And please research and plan a visit to the area soon! It is greatly needed, and the NC mountains are relaxing and beautiful year-round!

We and our guests love having Echota's large indoor pool and hot tub for year round swimming, .swim laps, or perfect for relaxing after skiing, hiking, shopping,etc. plus great fun on rainy summer days. But did you know that from May 1-Oct 1, this gorgeous outdoor pool area at Echota is also available? How about lounging by the pool, or using the spa tub while overlooking the beautiful mountains!😍 Echota amenities are included with a stay at our home.
