🌿 Richland Creek Wilderness – Ozark National Forest, AR 🌊
Tucked deep in the rugged Boston Mountains, Richland Creek flows nearly 30 miles through an 11,801-acre wilderness area established in 1984. It’s one of Arkansas’ most scenic and wild places.
✨ Crystal-clear water & massive 100-ft sandstone bluffs
🌊 Stunning waterfalls like Twin Falls, Richland Falls & Hamilton Falls
🚣♂️ Premier Class II–IV whitewater (best in winter & spring)
🥾 Wild, unmaintained hiking trails (true backcountry feel)
🏕️ 9 primitive first-come campsites
🦌 Wildlife sightings: deer, black bear & wild turkey
📍 Located in Newton & Searcy Counties, the creek eventually feeds into the Buffalo National River.
🚗 Good to Know: Access requires miles of gravel Forest Service roads (FS 1205), so come prepared. No maintained trails = real wilderness adventure.
Fun fact: This area is part of one of the most rugged sections of the Ozarks, shaped over millions of years — and you can literally picnic at the top of a waterfall before hiking down to swim below.
If you love wild places, waterfalls, and a little off-the-beaten-path adventure… Richland Creek belongs on your list. 🌄
