Last-minute Cordwood Workshop sign-ups!

We’ve got a few spots left for our upcoming Cordwood Construction Workshop in Tennessee and welcome folks to join in!

Come camp in the woods, eat homemade meals, meet good people, and spend a few days getting your hands dirty learning to build cordwood.

We’ll be constructing an outhouse using a variety of cordwood and related earthbuilding techniques. There will be plenty of hands-on practice, education, tours completed cordwood & earthen structures, problem solving, and discussions of practical solutions to common environmental considerations.

Matt snapped a few long-exposure shots from the cabin decks the other night, and you can actually see the stars moving across the sky.

Being up here on the mountain away from city lights gives us pretty clear views on quiet nights. Weather and clouds obviously have their own plans, so we can’t promise every night looks like this, but when the sky clears up, it’s a good reason to stay out on the deck a little longer.

Introducing Autumn & Gloria!

Gardenia (one of our brush-clearing Nigerian Dwarf goats) gave birth to two healthy little girls on September 10th. We are in love. 😍

You’ll be seeing Autumn & Gloria grazing and working around Talking Water as they grow. For now, they’re mostly focused on being ridiculously cute. 🐐

Last year’s cordwood workshops brought together a great group of curious, creative people and we had so much fun that we decided to do it again (and add another day per student request)!

So, skip the usual weekend plans and come spend three days at a beautiful mountain retreat learning a skill you probably won’t find on the average Chattanooga calendar.

During the workshop you’ll learn how to build with cordwood, get plenty of hands-on experience, and tour completed natural buildings around the property.

📅 If you haven't heard already, our new cordwood workshop dates are October 23-25, 2026!

We adjusted our schedule for a happy reason (wedding of a close family member that we just cannot miss!). We apologize and have already coordinated with all students signed up.
