Fresh Beginnings at Sunnyside Sisters: Meet the Next Generation of Laying Hens 🐣🌿!!!

At Sunnyside Sisters Bed & Breakfast, we believe that every sunrise should be greeted with something truly special—like the warm scent of fresh-baked bread, the gentle rustle of leaves on our 23-acre haven, and the unmistakable joy of cracking into a golden-yolked, organic egg laid just steps from your breakfast table.

Since yesterday we’ve welcomed the next generation of laying hens! These eight fluffy, two-week-old pearl white leghorn chicks are settling into their cozy brooder, chirping with promise and potential. Raised with love, care, and plenty of sunshine, it will be a joy to watch them grow into beautiful free-range white colored hens whose eggs will grace our breakfast plates by spring. Mmmmmm:-)))

Dear Bettie,

Our Bed and Breakfast has five beautiful en-suite bedrooms named after the four Carrington Sisters and their mother. One of the rooms is The Miss Emily Suite, dedicated to Miss Emily Eaton Carrington, a teacher in Mathematics, French, and General Grade Work at the Sunny Side School for Young Ladies.

We have three letters of Emily to her sister Elizabeth. Written at a very young age, these letters showcase Emily’s intellect, wit, and humor. Emily often teased her sister, Bettie, who was repeatedly away caring for family.

Keeping Everyone Safe—With a Smile

Just a few weeks ago, we were excited to unveil our new walking path, the "Sunnyside Loop." It’s a peaceful trail that also winds through a part of our property we share with our beloved White Swiss Shepherds. These friendly pups live with us in a charming little building we call The Little Sunnyside, a cozy space that used to be the outdoor kitchen. While they have their own fenced yard, it’s not connected directly to their home, so they often run around the property freely.

To help keep everyone safe, we put up No Trespassing signs to remind guests not to enter the dog-friendly areas. But as it happens, a few guests and visitors missed the memo—and while our dogs are friendly, they can get pretty excited and accidentally bump into someone. We didn’t want anyone getting hurt, so we decided it was time for a fence.

Building the fence took a little longer than planned. We weren’t exactly sure where the waterline ran, and we definitely didn’t want to hit it! So, we picked up a manual post hole digger to carefully dig each hole. It took more effort, but it gave us peace of mind.

Now that it’s finished, we’re thrilled with the result! And to make things even nicer, we added lights along the fence. Now guests can stroll safely after dark—and enjoy a little extra glow along the way.

Sunnyside Sisters B&B Shop update!

Our Sunnyside Shop, launched last March, has had a great start. We sold 10 LB Cheeses, organic free-range eggs, and our famous Rustic Organic Bread/Baguettes. We loved sharing information about our cheeses, their making process, and more, with our customers and guests. We also offered a chance to taste our different cheeses, which is customary in The Netherlands.

And now we’ve finished our Sunnyside Shop Rack Card and are exploring expanding our assortment with more ‘exotic’ Dutch cheeses and traditional Dutch treats for on the bread. Stay tuned.

Sunnyside Loop - walking trail - is finally complete!

This winter, we’ve been diligently working on clearing a walking trail on our property for our guests to enjoy.

This ¾-mile walking trail offers accessible and enjoyable outdoor experiences, perfect for nature enthusiasts and those seeking low-impact exercise. The trail follows the Blue Creek, making it mostly flat and shaded with trees, vines, and ferns. However, be prepared for a few mosquitos during the warmer months, so pack some repellent!

Benches along the trail provide opportunities to relax and enjoy the flora and fauna surrounding you. It’s a true paradise for bird lovers!
