Honoring PFC William Joseph Hobert (Orting, Washington)
​Today we remember and honor PFC William Joseph Hobert of Orting, Washington, who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1966. His memory and remarkable legacy are warmly remembered by his friend, Rob:
​"To an incredible athlete, gone before his prime…
​Although I was several years older than you at Orting High School, I played sports with your older brother, Dan, and grew up with your wife, Marsha, and her sisters. I was away at college during your athletic 'wonder years' when you pitched eight shutout innings in your senior year, five of which were consecutive no-hitters. It is a phenomenal achievement to be remembered. I recall you being drafted by the New York Yankees, but that path was cut short by military service.
​You would have been immensely proud of your namesake and nephew, Billy Joe Hobert, who quarterbacked the University of Washington Huskies to a National Championship in 1991 and went on to play in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and New Orleans Saints. Our small hometown of Orting remains deeply proud of you and your family.
​MAY YOU REST IN PEACE, YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN."
​PFC William Joseph Hobert is permanently honored on Panel 9E, Line 98 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial ("The Wall").
