Our Charter was formed on 9/27/1950 in Washington DC and later moved to Pittsburgh, PA, thus the reason behind the name Potomac Air Lodge 1976. Potomac Air Lodge 1976 is very unique in the sense that we only represent maintenance and related members that are covered under our agreement. Most union locals are amalgamated which means they represent other trades and members from other employers. Poto

mac Air Lodge 1976 main function is to administer the contract and serve the membership here in Pittsburgh to insure a safe and secure work environment.

American Airlines Blood Drive - April 22nd 2026

Please stop by and give blood to help patients in need. Every 2 seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, with 29,000+ units of red blood cells required daily. A single donation (about 1 pint) takes only 10–15 minutes and can save up to 3 lives.

On March 24th and 25th, District 142 educators hosted shop steward training at our local hall for our new Shop Stewards.

This vital training provides our Shop Stewards with the knowledge and abilities to better support and fight for our members in our workplace. These fine union brothers have answered the call to fight for our member's rights and protect their work under our JCBA.

On March 12th 2026, the IAM hosted a district symposium for our American Airlines M&R workers in Pittsburgh PA at the Hilton Garden Inn lead by IAM District 142 President John Coveny JR.

The symposium was held to discuss a variety of topics within our union to better understand each other and problems that we face at each local's stations within American Airlines in preparations for future contract negotiations.

Locals from all over the country came together to discuss and solve these issues including Local 1976 from Pittsburgh, Local 2930 from Dallas/Fort Worth, Local 1932 from Los Angeles, Local 2559 from Phoenix, and many more.

Just a reminder for our mechanics in Hangar 5, there is a zero tolerance policy regarding the possession and use of “zero-gravity” reclining chairs.

As of Saturday March 14th 2026, all “non-compliant” chairs have been locked up by management, and our members have until March 18th to collect them.

Thankfully, all uncollected chairs will be taken to the union hall for pickup after this date instead of destruction by the company. If your chair was taken and you have not got it back, please contact your local shop steward for help.

All unclaimed chairs after April 1st 2026 will be treated as a donation to the local to be used as seen fit.
