Two weekends left. Green River tubing runs through Sunday, September 13, and then the shuttle parks for the year. Labor Day weekend kicks off tomorrow with departures Thursday through Monday, and then there's one final Thursday-to-Sunday stretch starting September 10.

This is the last Monday of summer, and this is what the last big weekend is supposed to look like. Labor Day is the final long one before fall takes over, and the grill does most of the work. Take your pick of a mountain river in western North Carolina, a lake in central Florida, a golf course in south Georgia, a creek in northwest Georgia, or a marina on the Carolina coast. Red drum are North Carolina's state saltwater fish, and late summer into early fall is when they stack up around the mouths of the Pamlico and the Neuse. Cotton Patch Landing sits on Blount's Creek with a straight shot out to the Pamlico River, so you can be idling out of the marina before the coffee goes cold.

Boat ramp, wet slips, and the bait and tackle shop are all right on property, and there's a stay here called the Redfish Retreat for a reason.

Cedar Creek RV & Outdoor Center in Cave Spring, GA sits a short drive from one of the more unusual small towns in Northwest Georgia. The cave at Rolater Park holds a steady 57 degrees no matter what August is doing outside, and the spring out front runs year round if you bring a jug. Rolater Lake, the second-largest swimming lake in the state, runs weekends through Labor Day and then closes for the season. The Pinhoti Trail, Georgia's longest thru-trail at 165+ miles, runs right through the park. Float Big Cedar Creek in the morning, spend the afternoon in town, and be back at your site before dark.
