Fall is when your dog finally gets the good version of camping. No hot pavement, no panting in the shade at 2pm, no leaving them in the rig while you go do something. Cool mornings mean they can actually come along, whether that's a river trail in the Blue Ridge, a creek bank in northwest Georgia, a dock on a Florida lake, a marina on the North Carolina coast, or nine quiet holes in south Georgia. Every OAR property is pet friendly, leashes required, and several have fenced dog runs for when everybody needs a break from the leash. Bring the dog. October is their month too. 🐕

Planning a fall trip to northwest Georgia? 🍂 Our team at Cedar Creek RV & Outdoor Center put together a visitor's guide to Cave Spring, a charming 1832 town just a four-minute drive from our creekside sites.

Here's what's in it:
⛲ The free spring water spigot at Rolater Park. It runs year round, and local lore says a drink means you'll find your way back.
🏊 The stone, spring-fed pool shaped like the state of Georgia. It's only open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
🍽️ Three local spots for dinner: a steakhouse, BBQ, and pizza.
🚴 Two trails that are best in October, the Pinhoti and the Silver Comet.

Crappie season on Crescent Lake starts when the water takes its first real drop, and that is right about now. Florida anglers call them specks, and the good stretch runs from here straight through winter into the spring spawn. Troll jigs along the drop-offs and around brush early, and the bite holds a lot longer than it does in August.

Crescent Fish Camp in Crescent City, FL has the ramp, wet slips, fuel, and a bait and tackle shop right on the water, so the boat can be out before sunup if you want it to be. Full-hookup sites, tiny homes, and efficiency cottages are open through the season, and the marina drink service runs Friday-Sunday every week.

Holiday plans get made in October, and the Green River Guest House is the one at Wilderness Cove that fits everybody. It's a whole house on the property in Saluda, NC, so the group stays together under one roof instead of splitting across four campsites.

The river is right out the door, the trails are empty this time of year, and Saluda is up the hill when somebody needs coffee and a walk down Main Street. If you're the person in your family who books things, this is the week to do it. Reserve the Guest House at the link in bio. 🏡

Right now is when you book leaf season, not when you go. Peak color in the southern Appalachians is still two to three weeks out, and the high country turns first before it works its way down. 🍂

Around the Green River Gorge in western North Carolina the best stretch usually lands from the last week of October into the first week of November, and northwest Georgia runs about the same. That is a narrow window and those weekends go first.

Blount's Creek in October is a different animal than Blount's Creek in July. The jet skis are gone, the water settles down, and a kayak is the right speed for it. Paddle out from Cotton Patch Landing in Chocowinity, NC and the creek opens toward the Pamlico with cypress along the banks and almost nobody else on the water. Mornings are best, before any breeze picks up.

Full-hookup RV sites, cabins, the Redfish Retreat and the Captain's Quarters are all open through the fall, and the marina is right there when you want the bigger boat instead. Book a fall weekend at the link in bio. 🛶

Tent camping in Georgia stops being a test of endurance right about now. The humidity breaks, the bugs give up, and nights at Cedar Creek in Cave Spring get cool enough that the sleeping bag finally earns its keep. Tent sites here sit under the pines with Big Cedar Creek running right through the property, so you fall asleep to moving water instead of a highway. ⛺

The bathhouse and general store are a short walk, and the Silver Comet Trail is ten minutes out if you want to ride. Bring a warmer bag than you think you need, and buy firewood on site rather than hauling your own in.
