Have you passed Tarpon Belly Keys by boat and wondered what was happening?

People throughout the Lower Florida Keys have been asking: What’s happening at Tarpon Belly Keys near Cudjoe Key?

These drone photos captured by Nothing Better Rentals show the recently completed environmental mitigation area at Tarpon Belly Keys.

Although the island is not physically connected to Key West International Airport, this was an off-site restoration project used to offset environmental impacts associated with the airport’s Taxiway A improvement project.

The work included removing debris and unsuitable fill, adding suitable soil, and preparing the site for mangrove plantings and continued environmental monitoring.

We’re sharing these aerial views to help our neighbors get a closer look and better understand what changed.
