Lakota Koskalaka Wica Yuwita Pi - Lakota Young Men's Gathering

Lakota Koskalaka Wica Yuwita Pi - Lakota Young Men's Gathering KWYPi is a 4 day Lakota cultural camp for boys of the Oceti Sakowin. The camp is held on the Oglala Lakota Nation in South Dakota. All mentors are volunteers.

Porcupine, S.D (Pine Ridge Reservation): our koskalaka (young men, age 12-18 approximately) are the future of our people. As elder/older men we should provide guidance and teachings from a Lakota cultural perspective to the young men of the Pte Oyate (Buffalo People). A long time ago these teachings came in every day life as we hunted, gathered food, and lived. Today it is more difficult to do suc

h things, so we offer this young men's gathering or camp as an opportunity for our young male relatives to learn traditional teachings and to experience healing and gain knowledge to strengthen the path toward manhood. We select approximately 20 young men to join a mentorship as they participate in certain ceremonies or tasks such as:

-Wocekiye na Wagluhtata Pi Woonspe (Blessing the food Teachings)
-Ti ikciye Pawoslayeyapi na woonspe (Raising the tipi and teachings)
-Wakluya Pi Woonspe (Hunting)
-Itazipa Kaga (Bow Making)
-Inyan/Peta Aksupi (Traditional teachings on preparation for purification lodge)
-Wopakinte (Spiritual Cleansing)
-Lakol Caje Icu Pi (Lakota Name Giving)
-Wohpan Woonspe (Spiritual Kit Teachings)
-Maza Wakan Ta Woonspe (Gun Safety)
-Sunka Wakan Ta Woonspe (Horse Nation Teachings)
-Anpe Wi iyekiya Pi (Morning Star and Greeting the Sun Prayer and song)
-Ucangleska (Talking Circle)

The young Lakota men will camp in tipi and participate in cultural and ceremonial teachings throughout the 4 days. The camp is limited to a select 20 young men based on available resources. We always need donations for current or future camps. The camp is free to the select children. If you are interested in donating or have any questions and All donations can be made out to Tasunke Wakan Okolakiciye, Attn: Matt Shoulders +1 (505) 249-6978 [email protected]
