Our next award recipient, we want to recognize the TACAC William W. Fleming Award- Erika Gonzalez, Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School🌟

On April 21, 1996, the executive board inaugurated an annual award to recognize an individual who has achieved unquestioned excellence in counseling young people in the transition from high school to college. The award honors a TACAC member who has served students at least 10 years and who has been assessed by colleagues as meeting high standards of honesty, decency, and commitment to a good match between student and college. The award is named in honor of William W. Fleming, who served as TACAC's first Public Service Chair and remained a loyal TACAC member throughout his career. Most importantly, he always cared about helping young people find a good college match.

Erika Gonzales has over 20 years of dedication to public education, including 11 years in college counseling, surpassing the 10-year service requirement. As a first-generation college graduate, she offers deeply personalized, empathetic guidance, connecting her personal journey to students' challenges. Working with YWPN at Irma Rangel and YWLA Grand Prairie, she has successfully matriculated over 360 girls to college. Her impact extends beyond acceptance. Through her "to and through" model, she ensures students graduate, achieving a college graduation rate 2 times the national average for similar low-income schools. Her exceptional results are undeniable, particularly in the competitive QuestBridge program. Her record of life-changing success showcases her profound dedication to educational equity and student opportunity.

Our next award recipient, we want to recognize the TACAC Rising Star Award- Noah Murray, University of Texas at San Antonio🌟

This award, created by the executive board in 2000, honors individuals who have five years or less of active involvement with TACAC, have given outstanding service to the organization and demonstrate potential for future leadership.

Noah attended his first TACAC Conference in 2023. His nominator said they quickly bonded over his eagerness to get involved in TACAC and grow in his office. Almost immediately Noah proved he was genuine about those goals. He signed up for the Mentorship Program as a mentee and was part of last year's MMI Cohort where he used both opportunities to network and learn from others. Within the last year he has presented at multiple conferences and has been lauded by his peers for the insights he shares at these conferences. He has used his role to increase access for the San Antonio community to more post-secondary opportunities and is an active resource at college fairs. He's done all this while being a leader in his office, a part of SARN leadership, and getting married during fall travel season! This individual is a rockstar who will go far. As his mentor, I'm proud to see all that he has done and will continue to do in this profession.

Mickey has been a long-time supporter of ACCI! "I love giving back to this institute. I gained so much as an attendee, and several years ago I had the privilege of serving as the faculty chair on the higher education side. As I have “switched sides of the desk,” I am excited to pass along what I have learned to the next generation of outstanding counseling leaders."🎉🎉
