In the coming posts, I’d like to recognize the people/organization who played a vital role in bringing All About Diamonds to life.
Today, I want to thank the team at the AIGS THAILAND Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences: Henry Ho, Kennedy Ho, Fern, Ekkanat, Oratai, and Ingy. Each of you has been gracious, generous, and supportive throughout this project. I’m deeply grateful for the care, time, and effort you’ve contributed and continue to do so.
A special thank-you to Henry Ho, who believed in my project and helped bring it to life. Henry is not only a sharp and accomplished businessman, but also an exceptional person with admirable values and character. His deep understanding of the gemstone industry and his genuine appreciation for its craft, knowledge, and skill, made his support especially meaningful to me.
I feel incredibly fortunate that All About Diamonds found a home with AIGS. Henry understood not only the subject of the book, but also the experience and passion behind it. His belief in my work within the diamond field and his encouragement helped make this book possible. For that, I will always be grateful.
And as this journey with AIGS continues, I’m excited about what we may accomplish.
There are more people I’m grateful to, and each deserves a tribute of their own.
To be continued…

Thank you World Diamond Heritage Board for your support:

“At WDHB, we love books, especially those that explore the world of natural diamonds and jewellery.
Written by Lana Frank, a Florida-based diamond cutter and rough-diamond specialist with two decades of industry experience, All About Diamonds is an educational journey through the many facets of the diamond industry, from origins, mining and rough-diamond recovery to cutting, polishing, manufacturing and trade.
Drawing on her experience at the cutting bench and with rough diamonds, including fancy-colour stones, Lana brings a personal dimension to the subject, sharing insights and anecdotes gathered throughout her career.
Across 175 pages, the book, published by AIGS, offers a rich kaleidoscope of the diamond industry, combining industry knowledge with first-hand experience and reminding us that behind every natural diamond is, above all, a human story.

Each month, the WDHB team selects and shares a book that inspires our thinking and helps guide the future selection of titles for the World Diamond Library.”

Preserving the Legacy of Natural Diamonds

As a diamond cutter, I believe preserving the legacy of a natural diamond begins with understanding that we are not working with an ordinary material.

Every diamond carries a history that began deep within the Earth long before it reached human hands. But its story does not end when it is mined. The decisions made after that moment determine what will be preserved, what will be revealed, and what will be remembered.

Cutting a diamond is therefore not only a technical process. It is also an act of responsibility. We must consider the character of the rough, its natural shape, its internal features, and the qualities that make it different from every other stone. Sometimes the right decision is not to remove everything unusual in pursuit of uniformity. Sometimes the greater achievement is to protect an unexpected feature, preserve the personality of the crystal, or allow the stone to express its own identity.

The legacy of a diamond can be preserved through its craftsmanship, its design, its provenance, and the knowledge attached to it. It can also be preserved through the people who handle it—the miners, cutters, polishers, designers, gemologists, and collectors who understand that they are contributing to a story much larger than themselves.

When a natural diamond is passed from one generation to another, it carries more than its physical beauty. It carries the memory of the hands that shaped it, the people who wore it, and the moments connected to it.

For me, preserving the legacy of a diamond means allowing that story to continue without erasing what makes the stone unique. It means creating something worthy of the past, meaningful in the present, and capable of being treasured in the future.

We do not simply cut diamonds. We become part of their history.

The World Diamond Congress in Singapore last week was a very enriching experience for me, both professionally and personally. The host of the event, Fabio Cascapera, President of the Diamond Exchange Singapore, was the ultimate star of the show; he made this whole experience rich and pleasant.
Everyone who spoke at the panels deserves applause, and each subject covered was relevant and important. The Singapore International Jewelry Expo took place at the same time and provided us with an additional experience. The evening events, such as the Asian Charity Dinner and Congress Gala, were filled with unique experiences and an amazing atmosphere.
Singapore itself has so much to offer and makes you feel like you are in a wonderland—sparkling and colorful! I am thankful for new friends, expanded knowledge, and new opportunities. I felt a strong sense of unity in this industry, as well as acceptance and willingness. I cannot distinguish any one person, because they were all exceptional! 💎
