Honored to have attended the Fallen Officers Memorial today. And we very much appreciate the award from DPD for coordinating meals for the night shift from our member properties. “We are thankful that Governor Polis and his team are ready to reopen Colorado for larger meetings and events. Our industry has been working with the governor’s administration to demonstrate our ability to reopen events, meetings and conventions while ensuring the safety and health of our guests, employees and local communities. The governor’s decision to chart a pathway to return meetings and events to Colorado will positively impact our members, their employees, our local communities and the state’s economy.”

From the Gazette editorial:

"The state’s hotels report losing $660 million in earnings since the arrival of COVID-19, according to a Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association survey — and that’s just at the 53 resorts that responded. Those businesses project losing another $456 million in the near term. As a result, tens of millions of dollars are lost in tax revenue to the state. ...

"The outlook is dire, but our state’s policy makers — particularly Gov. Jared Polis — can help turn things around. We hope the governor will act because he can make a big difference."

The biggest threat to the industry’s recovery are the state’s unrealistic restrictions on the events that are the bread and butter of a lot of the hotels.
