A custom pool cover starts with the pool—and the surfaces around it. 📏🍂

We installed this Anchor Industries Defender Mesh pool cover in Tan in St. Charles, MO.

One detail you might not notice in the finished photos: this pool had ground tubes around the entire cover, with different lengths in different areas:
▪️ 9-inch tubes in the pavers
▪️ 15-inch tubes in the planter area

Why does that matter? Planning a pool cover involves more than its shape and size. The surrounding pavers, landscaping, and anchor locations also need to be considered when planning how the cover attaches.

These tube lengths were used on this particular pool; each installation needs its own assessment.

A better-fitting replacement cover starts with accurate measurements. 📏

We installed this Anchor Industries Cross Star solid replacement cover in tan and completed the pool closing in Chesterfield, MO. The previous cover didn’t fit correctly around the waterfall, so we measured the pool itself and the existing anchor locations instead of using the old cover as the template.

We then used a cable system at the waterfall to achieve a snug, secure fit around the stonework.

The takeaway: when an old cover doesn’t fit properly, duplicating it can carry those same problems into the replacement. Fresh measurements help account for the pool’s shape, anchor placement, and features like waterfalls.

Custom pool cover replacement and pool closing in Belleville, Illinois. 🍂

We installed this Anchor Industries Defender Mesh duplicate cover in Tan and updated the attachment setup around the rockwork. The previous cover used cables attached into the rocks; we converted that section to webbing and ratchets to eliminate that cable setup.

We also completed the pool closing while we were there—new cover installed and closing checked off the list. ✅

Considering Anchor Industries? Here’s how the options compare 👇

💧 Anchor Mesh — the lighter mesh option, allowing rain to drain through while blocking up to 85% of sunlight.

☀️ Defender Mesh — a denser weave that blocks up to 98% of sunlight while still allowing drainage. Reinforcing webbing underneath leaves a smoother top surface to help with leaf cleanup.

🔹 5-Star Solid — a spring-attached cover with welded vinyl tensioning paddles instead of conventional cross-webbing. Available with an automatic pump or mesh drain configuration.

🔹 Cross Star Solid — designed for replacement applications involving conventional cross-web anchor layouts. Check existing anchors; Anchor’s 2026 brochure specifies a 1,700 GPH automatic pump.

🔹 Classic Solid — rests on the pool water and uses rubber ties instead of springs. An automatic cover pump is required.

📋 Anchor lists 12-year limited warranties for its mesh covers and 10-year limited warranties for these solid covers. Coverage includes exclusions and prorated terms—it does not mean free replacement for the entire warranty period.

Higher sunlight blocking can help limit algae growth, but water chemistry, drainage and winter care still matter.

🔹 Solid Vinyl: 100% advertised UVA/UVB protection for the solid material, with a cover pump or approved mesh drain needed to manage water.

🔹 Super Dense Mesh: Approximately 97% sunlight blocking, with rain and melting snow draining through.

🔹 Aqua-Xtreme: 99% sunlight blocking with mesh drainage—even though it’s called “virtually solid.”

🔹 Ultra-Loc III: Solid material that blocks 100% of sunlight, available with mesh drain panels or without drains, using the required automatic cover pump.

The right choice also depends on your pool’s shape, installation, and winter maintenance needs. And no cover replaces proper water care!
