Table for 8 — or sometimes 12. Custom built for the room (and left with the house at sale because of it) this sixteen foot long and four foot wide beauty was designed by , built by and not painted black, but torched black using the ancient Shou Sugi Ban technique.

We still think about this room every day 😍

When the vision starts to come together and and it stops feeling like you’re camping in someone else’s home 👀 That’s the good stuff.

Over the moon with phase 1 of paint completed by our great friends (and utmost professionals) at . Contrast that against the refinished floors (+ no more carpet) and it doesn’t get much better than this. Final furniture still to come before you get those sweet, sweet wide shots.

New gutter day to pair with that new roof over at . This house has a little bit of budget behind it to bring it back to life, but not quite real-copper-gutter-budget (much to ’s dismay). Still, thrilled with how this coppertone 5” K-Style aluminum gutter turned out on the house and cabin from the professionals at Allied Gutter.

This old house just keeps breathing a new sigh of relief with each passing day.

It’s been an insane couple of weeks since move-in. Cleaning, solving tree issues, plumbing issues, electrical issues, installing air conditioning and water treatment and all the things. Haven’t gotten to even remotely settle in yet between travel and these floors, but we’re just so ready to get home and make it ours 😭

After 7 incredible years reviving, living in and loving on our best pal, ; it’s time to pass her on to the next stewards and chase the next project 👀 We’ll probably wax poetic someday soon before we move early this summer about all that that house meant to us, the journey it kicked off in haste with all of our followers here that watched every Instagram story for more than a year; but in the meantime we thought we’d tell you about what’s next.

A (livable this go around, thankfully), 1908 Colonial in the quaint village of Milford, MI. She needs lots of love, a few updates (Cali is drooling about what she’s going to do to the kitchen already), and the original outbuilding on the property that’ll be an office/movie room combo is a real family favorite. Not to mention, the 1.5 acres to run and play (and mow lots of grass).

Special thanks to our best buddy of (with some back office support from .mortgage) for making this possible and chasing our ever-changing dreams with us.

We hope you’ll follow along as we breathe new life (once again) into another old house that deserves her time in the sun. What’s the hashtag going to be this go around? 🏡

*tap tap tap* …is this thing on? It’s been a couple of years since we’ve consistently shown up in this space, it might be about time to rev it back up, huh?

Checking back in with a quick-turn, high impact change we just wrapped at the one that started it all, . While the 1940’s Detroit science classroom butcher block we sourced and refinished for the island was incredible, it couldn’t take the heat and the beating put on it for the last 6 years in the kitchen. So in honor of our beloved homes 111th birthday, we upgraded her to an incredible soapstone sure to stand the test of time (and kitchen frenzies).

Thoughts? Vibes? What do you want to see from us back in this space?

It’s been the honor of a lifetime bringing the renovation + new addition of Detroit Achievement Academy to life for the last year and a half alongside Kyle Smitley (Founder and Executive Director of DAA) and the rest of the remarkable team at the school.

A MAJOR highlight of this project was having the honor of working with Fireclay Tile through their ‘Fireclay Gives’ initiative. To put it simply: they changed everything. They changed the budgets that we were able to fit in to bringing joy to other spaces throughout the massive project, they changed the money that could be leftover to actually serve kids and not go toward construction, and they changed our thinking on ways to take their gorgeous product and elevate its usage to new heights. Every last inch of tile in the newly-renovated and added on to 50,000 square foot school, was donated by the amazing folks at Fireclay (7,000 SF of tile between both donations installed at DAA and their sister school ), and we couldn’t be more proud to have had them as a partner (and have the best and most ethical tile on the market in the school, to boot)!
