Review: I travel to Duluth often, usually to hike and spend time on the beach. Generally when I rent hotels in Duluth it is closer to the lake, as I have always wanted to be close to the water and the highways to get up north for hiking. However, traveling in Duluth in the fall is expensive, so I decided to find a hotel a further distance from the water to save on costs. I took a chance on reserving a room at TownePlace Suites and I am so glad I did. Not only was this hotel significantly cheaper than the hotels closer to the water and main highways, but it was a lot nicer and cleaner. The hotel is a newer hotel, having just opened in 2025. It is very clean and well appointed. My daughter and I stayed in a double Queen room. All of the rooms have kitchenettes that include an apartment sized fridge, a two burner stove top, a small dishwasher, a microwave, and dishes for up to 4 people. There are also some cooking utensils, pots and pans, and some mixing/serving bowls. While we did not do any cooking during our stay, we loved having the larger fridge for all of the food we brought to the hotel and also bought during our trip. The beds were pretty comfortable and had nice pillows and linens. The room had a desk with two chairs, plus a lounge chair and ottoman with a lamp and side table. The shower was nice and the towels were soft. We really loved our room. When I booked the hotel I was hesitant because I knew it was in the mall area and I was afraid it would be really loud. We were pleasantly surprised to find the hotel is tucked back in the woods, well off the main roads. It is so quiet and peaceful in that spot. It was easy to get onto the main road in the mall area (Miller Truck Highway) from the hotel and get anywhere we wanted to go in Duluth quickly. It was about a 13 minute drive to the Fitger's area, where we had dinner one night. The hotel staff were all very kind and welcoming. The complimentary breakfast included good quality bagels and bread, sausage, cage free eggs, fruit, and make-your-own waffles. We were impressed with the quality of the food. Even the coffee provided was tasty, which is not the norm for a hotel. Two additional bonuses are that there's a large fire pit outside and a grill guests can use out front. Plus, there's a small pool and a decent looking fitness center. We didn't use either but I peeked in at them. This is now going to be our go-to hotel when we visit Duluth. Even though we weren't actually in our room a lot during our stay, it was so nice to go back to a cozy, clean room after long days of hiking, where we could spread out and not feel crammed into a small space. We were truly sad to leave!
