The college gymnast in me learned this a long time ago.

Chin up. Smile. Move with confidence.

Even when the nerves are loud.

Somewhere along the way, I learned that sometimes you don’t wait until you feel brave to act brave.

You move first.

And somehow, your brain gets the message. 😂

Here is what I’m learning about being a golf mom:

• Follow him in the golf cart while he walks the entire course carrying his clubs.

• Film when he tees off. Put the phone away when he’s chipping

• Don’t get in the way of the other players.

• Don’t drive until everyone has hit the ball.

• When he hits a good shot, make silent clapping motions, give a thumbs up, and smile really big… but don’t cheer loudly. 😂

• Watch closely to see where the ball lands.

• Help find it when it disappears into the weeds.

• Keep the water bottle full.

• Offer snacks.

• Worry about whether he’s drinking enough water.

• Wonder how he’s surviving the heat.

• Look for shade whenever you can. It’s a long day.

• Say, “Good ball!” when the other players do.

• Say, “You’re doing great” if you’re not sure.

• When frustration starts to creep in, say, “Take your time.”

• Mostly, just be there.

So he can look at you after he hits.
So he can look over and find you while he’s walking.
So he knows he’s supported.

Because being his mom means learning all the little things that matter to him.

And right now, I’m learning how to be a golf mom.
