Forestburg Scout Reservation

Forestburg Scout Reservation One of Northeast’s Top Scouts BSA Camps, offering a full summer camp program. Year-round weekend rentals are available too.
(424)

History:
The first summer camp session at Forestburg was held in 1956, following the initial land purchase of the 635-acre (2.57 km2) estate of Dr. Thomas Darlington, former Health Commissioner for New York City. The camp nearly doubled in size in 1965 with an additional purchase of the 600-acre (2.4 km2) Metauk Rod & Gun Club. Geography:
The three most notable features of the reservation are Burn

t Hope Lake, Tecumseh Rock and Darlington Falls. Burnt Hope Lake is a manmade lake originally named Hope Lake, after the Hope Lumber Company, but renamed after fires in 1805 and 1864 put the company out of business. Programs:
Forestburg features programs in different areas- Waterfront, which includes swimming and boating on Burnt Hope Lake, Scoutcraft, which features pioneering and outdoor skills, Handicraft, which is where skills in creating things are taught, Field Sports, which has shooting-related merit badges, Environmental Conservation, where classes dealing with nature are taught, Technology Center, which teaches science related badges and houses the W2FSR amateur radio station, and Frontier Camp, where the newest scouts work towards Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Ranks. Unlike its brother camp, FSR does not feature a theme.

Today marks a new milestone in the history of the Jersey Shore and Monmouth Scouting America Councils.

On Thursday, August 20th both councils held meetings of all voting members, and both unanimously approved their merger.

Monmouth and Jersey Shore Councils look forward to combining to provide a quality program, camping opportunities at three diverse camps, membership growth, and retention in a safe environment for the youth that we serve.

Our sincere thanks to the voting members of both Councils, all the volunteers and the staff for your support and vision as we move forward in service to Scouts in Atlantic, Ocean, Monmouth, and parts of Middlesex, Cape May, and Burlington counties.

Discover Forestburg returns August 2–5, 2026! Monmouth Council’s Webelos resident camp is the perfect way for rising 4th and 5th graders to experience the outdoors, build confidence, and get a true preview of Scouts BSA Resident Camp. Webelos stay in Scouts BSA tents with cots, enjoy meals in our dining hall, and participate in a high-quality program including swimming, fishing, boating, BBs, archery, crafts, STEM, hiking, and stargazing. Dens work together on Webelos/AOL Adventures throughout their stay. This is a one-on-one camping experience for Webelos and their parent/guardian. One adult may accompany two Webelos siblings. Give your Scout the adventure they’ll talk about all year. https://www.monmouthcouncilscouting.org/discoverforestburg
