Come out and help an old man retain his sanity! Paying $15/hr plus a generous amount of veggies or $20/hr if you don't need food. This week in particular I need a hand but has potential to be a long term once a week gig, especially if interested in a work trade. Thinning, weeding, planting and some row cover stuff are the main needs. Experience not required. Send me a message if interested!

Tomorrow at Yancey County Farmer’s Market during the craft fair in Burnsville I will be bringing lots of exciting summer veggies! I'm going to set up earlier than usual and will be under the pavilion ready to sell you produce by 8am for those who want to avoid the craft fair traffic and find easier parking. I am still taking pre-orders as well so send me a message if you'd like me to see the price list, plenty of limited time bulk deals still available in particular on snap beans, malabar spinach and summer squash along with other pre-order only sale prices!

08/06/2026

Come see us this Saturday! While many of our artists will be at the craft fair, most of our farmers will be at the pavilion with a great variety of summer produce.

Henry Eric Payne, an artist and farmer of Five Pine Farm, submitted this beautiful piece to the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival’s annual Art Contest. His work was selected because it so powerfully embodied this year’s theme, Porchlight: Stories That Guide Us Home.

Of the piece, Payne wrote, “The fire was definitely something I thought might touch a nerve, of course. For me it's both a metaphor for change and an acquiescence to our lack of control over our surroundings and nature in general. Our homes are a part of nature even if we feel they are separate, and subject to the perils that come with that. I also think that "home" doesn't necessarily mean a place without discomfort or potential danger. And sometimes what guides people home is a need to help or protect loved ones. After Helene these kinds of ideas were on my mind a lot while I painted and came up with concepts, so I am really glad that this resonated with y'all in a way that I hope came across as respectful.”

The Carolina Mountains Literary Festival extends its sincere thanks to Henry Eric Payne for sharing his remarkable artwork and thoughtful reflections. We are grateful for his contribution and for creating a piece that so beautifully captures the spirit of this year's theme.

We've got Ancona ducklings! Anconas are a hardy dual-purpose heritage breed that lay white or green eggs. Jackie has raised a number of duck breeds and Anconas win out by a mile! We got more ducklings out of this hatch than we thought so we're a little in over our heads 😅 but excited to be back in the duck game!
