Take a drive down Highway 92 towards the San Francisco Peninsula, and you’ll see dozens of nurseries and farms that decorate the area in a lush, verdant landscape. As you get closer to the ocean, roll down your window, and you’ll feel a pleasant sea mist diffused throughout the air and a temperature that’s never too hot or too cold. This nutrient-rich ocean mist, temperate year-round weather, and rich soil make Half Moon Bay a cornucopia of vibrant food and horticulture and an exciting destination for travelers. For years I have patiently waited at sunset, watching the sun sink into the Pacific ocean, and attempted to observe the famous ‘green flash.’ Not once did the mysterious ‘green flash’ appear at the final moment of the sun’s descent.

Perhaps it was one of the most comforting moments of my life when I saw the SF Gate article “Meteorologist captures rare Green Flash in Half Moon Bay”. This was it, photographic proof that the flash exists. Not only does it exist but it was photographed in my favorite beach town in California, “Half Moon Bay.”

Are you looking for a fun activity to do while visiting the Half Moon Bay Area? Located just south of the lovely seaside town of Pescadero (about 35 minutes from Inn at Mavericks) stands the picturesque Pigeon Point Lighthouse. This 144 year old icon is considered to be the tallest operating lighthouse on the West Coast (115-ft.) and one of the most recognizable in the Western United States. For over 140 years the lighthouse has guided ships in and out of the harbor and has served as a major coastal California treasure that has drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
