A family enjoys a cookout at dusk at the QCC. That item to the right of the fire is local Corn on the Cob, Cooked in the Husk on the embers of the Fire Pit. The picked-fresh-daily Corn was purchased from Lone Elm Farm, at their stand located at the corner of Route 6 and Route 97.

Great news! The Lone Elm Farmstand at the corner of Main Street and Rt 6 openned up today. It offers farm fresh sweet corn and other Produce. I was looking for it earlier in the week but the corn wasn't quite ready until today. Recommend mixing a little Butter and Sugar with some Silver Queen!

This is the Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union, CT. It is about 16 miles or 26 driving minutes away from the QCC (Quiet Corner Cottage). It is a beautiful ride up there. The state park's 516 acres border Nipmuck State Forest on the east and west and Mashapaug Lake on the north. Beautiful views. Lots of variety on the trails. Some flat, some rock scrambles, a few streams to cross on logs or rocks. Walking sticks helped in the water crossings. Many places to stop for lunch or breaks along the trail. If you follow the Breakneak Loop trail it is about 8 miles round trip. Clearly marked - easy to follow. Very scenic! But you can also just drive around and enjoy the sceanry that way too.

Its the time of the year when you can get fresh vegtables at the nearby Full Moon Farm Stand tommorow, Saturday 8/1/2026 for example, they are open from 10-1 at 130 Station Road in Hampton. This is exactly 1 mile from the QCC, 2 minutes by car, or a healthy 23 minute walk (each way). They offer local beef, pork, summer squash, cucumbers, eggplants, poblano and jalapeño peppers, potatoes, carrots, cherry tomatoes, green and yellow beans, cabbages, lettuce mix, scallions, fresh onions, garlic, blueberries, beets, chard, kale, parsley and basil, flowers, firewood bundles, plus peaches from Lapsley Orchard, baked good from the Hampton General Store, honey from A & Z Apiaries and maple Bright Acres Farm Sugarhouse. Amazing abundance!
