Burn Ban for Poinsett County

MARCH 25, 2026.
Because the long duration of dry weather has created extreme hazardous conditions for potential fires throughout Poinsett County, Judge Carter has issued a BURN BAN until further notice.

Looking for something to do for spring break? The state park has tons of programs for kids and adults all week long! Most programs are free, but make sure you sign up early for the kayak tours and campfire cooking to guarantee your spot.

Lake Poinsett has Hiking Basics coming up on March 19th at 5:30 pm. They'll talk about what to bring on a hike, what to wear, and then take you on a short hike to see what it's like. Call the park at 870-578-2064 to register.

February Backpacking 101 was a wonderful start to our Women in the Woods events for the year. Next up, March 1, join us for Bushcrafting 101 from 1 pm - 3 pm. Gain confidence on the trail as you learn how to build shelters for "in case" scenarios. To register, call the Visitor Center during store hours at 870-932-2615.

Then, don't forget, Lake Poinsett State Park has kicked off their own Women in the Woods programs for the year. Join them for Hiking Basics at 5:30 pm on March 19!

Both events are free, but please call the hosting park to register.

Lake Poinsett state park is partnering with Lake Frierson State Park to offer tailored programs for women interested in learning outdoor skills all year! These skill workshops will be on the 1st Sunday at Lake Frierson and the 3rd Thursday here at Lake Poinsett. Registration is required, check out their post for more details!

Thank you to everyone that came out and helped at our trash pickup around Lake Poinsett yesterday morning. Over 50 bags of trash were picked up from Dam Rd all around Dawson Ln. Pictured are Jeremy Luff, Jean Arnold, Terry Jenkins, Eva Ho**er, Diana Jenkins and Madeline Luff. Also a big thank you to the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office for sending help and Lake poinsett State Park for picking up our collected trash and disposing of it. We appreciate you all!!!
