Like everyone in Tennessee, the world, but especially Sevierville, we mourn the passing of the great Dolly Parton. 😥

With heavy hearts, the Dollywood family mourns the passing of our beloved Dreamer-in-Chief, Dolly Parton. Everyone at Dollywood shares the sorrow of countless people around the world touched by Dolly’s warmth, wisdom and generous spirit.

Dolly’s heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness—a space where families and friends could honor her memory, not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.

That looks like cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis).

It’s a native perennial that especially likes wet soil and pond edges, so the location in your photo is ideal. The brilliant red tubular flowers are also excellent for attracting hummingbirds.

It typically blooms mid-to-late summer, grows about 2–4 feet tall, and can return and spread naturally if the shoreline stays moist.

I’d definitely keep that one—it’s a very desirable native pond-edge plant.

Time for pond dye. Great Blue Heron has stopped here twice this week. He just flew off when I came out. He can see into the water when flying over. The dye helps prevent that. And it looks good, will show it fully spread later this week. Also limits algae growth.
