There’s a change in the air… the “ber” months are coming. Time for cozy layers, chilly mornings, and watching the world turn into a winter wonderland. Are you ready for snow, or wishing summer would stay a little longer?

A long drive feels a whole lot better when it includes a soak at Liard Hot Springs. Warm water, beautiful forest, and a little time to slow down before getting back on the road to Alaska. This was a stop we were glad we made!

The only stretch of the Alcan that made me nervous on our drive to Kodiak was near Tetsa River—a huge drop beside the road and an edge that looked like it was sloughing away. Thankfully, it’s over pretty quickly! My advice for this part of the Alaska Highway? Take your time, then stop for a cinnamon roll at Tetsa River. Worth the stop!

Would you drive through a mountain on railroad tracks? That’s how we’re leaving Whittier, Alaska.

The Whittier Tunnel stretches 2.5 miles through the mountain, with cars and trains taking turns using the same passage. Seeing the tracks beneath us and the rough rock walls up close makes this drive an adventure of its own.
