Great last day of the summer conference. Informative sessions on ticketing, WPN history and a loving toast to the one and only Michael Goldberg. Thank you for a great WPN 2026. Congratulations and thank you to Dillon and the entire team at Viterbo University Fine Arts Center. See you at Midwest Arts Xpo in September!

The Wisconsin arts community lost a true legend. 🎭❤️

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Goldberg, former Director of the Wisconsin Union Theater and a cornerstone of the Wisconsin Presenters Network (WPN).

To some, Michael was a director; to us, he was the mentor who shaped three generations of arts leaders. As our colleague Jim O’Connell beautifully put it, Michael was a "baker" who spent his career making the rest of us feel like "pretty smart cookies."

Whether he was welcoming a newcomer to the state in their first week—as he did with Anne Katz of Create Wisconsin back in 1984—or sharing his deep institutional memory with the "dinosaurs" and newcomers of the WPN alike, Michael wore his expertise with a rare, genial ease. He believed in quality, community, and the power of connection.

Michael, thank you for the stories, the laughs, and for showing us all how to lead with kindness. Our hearts are with his wife, Allisanne, and all who were lucky enough to call him a friend.

The beat goes on, Michael. We’ll keep the lights on for you. 🕯️
