Couldn’t help myself, the flowers made me do it. They smelled so good, I HAD to capture them. I’m making Wildcrafted Kordiall. One jar is chokecherry blossom, the other is crabapple blossom and violets. The flower ferment is the first step… if I keep it going long enough, I’ll get to vinegar. Speaking of which… if this all sounds intriguing, you might want to sign up for Dwight Zietlow’s vinegar, oxymel, and soda class on May 16th. So good.

I hiked to the top of the south bluff after the Iowisota Wildflower Saunter on Saturday. I was looking for fern fiddleheads; they were too far past in the upper patches, but I did find lovely views!

Breakfast a couple of days ago! Near the end of April at Iowisota, and the ostrich fern fiddleheads are already mostly unfurled. Glad I found a few morels to enjoy this quintessential taste of Spring!
