I just finished up another creation for MHT.

I had so much fun with this one! Isn't it amazing how things can change without us even realizing it? Sometimes we don't notice our progress until we step back and reflect.

Seven years ago, I had the privilege of assisting Master Hatters of Texas in crafting a new brand identity. Through a comprehensive analysis, I developed unique typography and a custom color palette, along with a brand-new logo. It thrills me to see how our work has evolved from that initial logo mark.

What If & Why Not (YNOT)

Have you ever done the ‘What If’ Exercise? It’s when you’re faced with a challenging situation, and you or your team have to brainstorm on alternative solutions to what might otherwise be a ‘standard’ response. Creatives have used this technique for years, heck centuries, to break the molds of social norms. It goes something like this.

We need to create a better __________. It has to be something new and different, perhaps unexpected, that will stand apart and outperform its competition. Give me some ideas.

‘What if’ it was was perceived as __________?

‘What if’ it were re-engineered to __________?

‘What if’ it cost less to produce and out performed in __________?

You get the idea. The goal is to place no limitations on your thoughts. Anything goes, nothing is too outrageous, and every idea is embraced to find the perfect solution.

Twenty years ago, I worked in the corporate world when ‘sustainability’ and ‘LEED’ certification became the new buzz topic. All the executives talked about it, but the rub was that going sustainable was too costly over traditional, non-sustainable materials. Fast forward to today and the companies featured in this article. Bottom line, you can be green and be successful if you believe in the initiative, are willing to invest in new technology and methods, and develop a brand centered on environmentally sound practices.

A great deal of progress has been made, but is it enough to make buying eco-friendly products affordable for everyone?
