Now THIS one is hilarious and really blows my mind! 😂❤️

Apparently, my daughter has been preparing for TOP HOST since ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!

We always knew De’jia had a special gift for entertaining and storytelling, but looking back at this video is just too funny!

While attending Bilbray Elementary, she was assigned to write a report about the person her school was named after.

Well, leave it to MY child to decide a regular old report just wasn’t creative enough!

So what does she do? Creates her very own news show called KIDS NEWS! 🎤🎬

And not only did she create the show, she gave herself TWO jobs!

Meet De’jia Curry, the sophisticated news anchor behind the desk, AND De’jia Symone, reporting LIVE from the scene!

She even recruited her little brother Rahsaan as an interviewee, while Dad provided the voiceover and helped produce this little masterpiece!

Now mind you, this was an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT, not an audition for CNN! 😂

Watching this years later makes my heart smile. Who knew that little girl hosting her own news show would one day be competing for an opportunity to host her very own podcast produced by iHeart?

From KIDS NEWS to TOP HOST! Talk about coming full circle!

Today, I’m asking my village to stand with my daughter, De’jia Symone. ❤️

She’s competing in Ryan Seacrest’s Top Host competition for a chance to win $25,000, create a six-episode podcast produced by iHeart, and appear on On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

But to this mother, it’s so much more than a contest.

De’jia was born with a dark birthmark covering one side of her face. She endured painful bullying—even being spat upon—until I removed her from school because of the emotional toll. There were dark periods when she struggled with her self-worth and her place in the world.

And yet…
Still, she rises.
Still, she creates.
Still, she dreams.

During that difficult chapter, Bill Duke invited us to be part of his book Dark Girls. That experience became part of her journey toward recognizing her beauty, value and worth.

Since middle school, De’jia has been creating worlds through stories. Years later, she befriended Chase Atlantic and appeared in their music video. In college, she launched her YouTube journey by sharing her reaction to seeing their music video for the first time and seeing herself onscreen.

Then her authentic reaction to Nikita Dragun’s Dragon Beauty makeup went viral. Nikita reacted to her, and De’jia eventually became a brand ambassador, appearing in photo shoots, commercials and pop-up events.

Now she dreams of creating an immersive, cinematic podcast that reimagines scary internet stories through storytelling, original sound and atmosphere—while opening doors for other creatives.

I see a child bullied for looking different becoming a woman willing to stand before a camera. A storyteller finding her voice… and using it.

Twenty years ago on this day she took her last breath. Twenty years later I sat with her at sunset and told her I found it...

…The treasure box she left me was not something physical that I had to search for. It was her essence — buried in me all along.

What an emotional and unforgettable day celebrating 83 years of greatness with Bill Duke.

We honored not only his birthday, but his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — so well deserved for a man who has lived his life on purpose.

Bill welcomed me into the Duke Media Foundation family, mentored my son and daughter, and featured my daughter De’jia and me in his book Dark Girls. I owe him more than words can express. He has been a covering in our lives, he is a beautiful soul.

Happy 83rd Birthday, Bill. Your star has always shined — now the world gets to see it in stone. ✨
