A Wisconsin summer night used to come with its own very specific kind of entertainment, and it didn't involve a single screen smaller than the size of a barn. ๐ฌ Families would pull the car into a gravel lot, hook a speaker onto the half-rolled-down window, and settle in with lawn chairs and a cooler long before the first preview even started.
Kids usually ended up in pajamas on the hood or stretched out on a blanket in front of the car, half watching the movie and half watching the sky fade from orange to black above the screen. The concession stand was its own event entirely, with a line forming the second intermission hit and everyone racing back before the second feature got going.
So many of these drive-ins have closed over the decades, but the ones still hanging on feel like a direct line back to those exact summer nights. Did your family have a regular drive-in you went to, and is it still standing today? ๐ฟ
