Even a muggy day can turn a little magical around Estes Park. That mesmerizing plume is water coming out of the Marys Lake Powerplant and rushing into Marys Lake, the afterbay below the power-generating drop. Hard to look away, isn’t it?

It all starts with two big holes.

Something new is underway at the old Raymond Store, and the backhoe is only the beginning. We’re approaching this as a careful rehabilitation, with plans to bring back the character of the store’s 1950s exterior while preparing the building for its next chapter.

We’re not ready to share the whole plan just yet, but those who know this building may want to keep an eye on it.

A great winter trip is about having the perfect basecamp. A warm, private cabin where you can settle in by the wood stove after a day of exploring.

From here, step outside for accessible adventures like snowshoeing in Wild Basin or wildlife watching in Rocky Mountain National Park. You don't have to be a hardcore adventurer to enjoy the mountains in winter.

A little while ago, we started leaving rocks for our guests to paint, and they really ran with it. We now have a painted rock garden, a fairy garden decorated with their creations, and this surprise: an old abandoned post hole that nature was slowly reclaiming, turned into a tiny piece of art by one imaginative guest. We never know what the next painted rock will become, and that might be the best part.

Dreaming of a campfire in the Rockies? Before you go, the most important step is to always check current fire restrictions.

Right now, this is critical: Many areas in Boulder County and the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests are under Stage 2 restrictions. That means absolutely no campfires - not even in established fire rings. Conditions change fast, so please check official sources for the latest updates before your trip.

For when those restrictions lift, a key part of Leave No Trace is making sure your fire is completely out. Remember: Douse, Stir, and Feel. Douse the embers with water, stir the ashes, and douse again. Repeat until it’s cool to the touch. If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave.

Ever driven a road that was a major travel route thousands of years before cars were invented?

That's Rollins Pass, the old Moffat Road. Long before it was a railroad, this corridor was a vital game drive for Native Americans. You can still see the ancient rock walls they built - a history written in stone.

Driving it today is a true Colorado adventure. The old railroad bed is a rugged road, so a high-clearance 4WD vehicle is a must. It's only open seasonally, usually from late June until the first big snow.

For a journey with unforgettable views, you can hop on the eastern side from Rollinsville. Who's ready for an adventure? 🏔️
