Nobody had to pack a passport.
That’s what someone said to me after the last one — thank you for not making us get on a plane. I’ve thought about it ever since. You drive twenty-five minutes out of Asheville, you take your shoes off, you sit on the floor with people you’ve never met, and Morocco comes to you.
We’re doing it again on October 16.
Nadia Labdaoui is cooking the couscous — the one whose kitchen millions of people have learned Moroccan food from, and it turns out she lives an hour from here. River and Chris on oud and percussion Free Planet Radio Asheville Rhythm . Brandi Transformational Bellydance teaching all of us to dance whether we know how or not. Mint tea poured high, sweets, henna in the lantern light, and the sun going down over the Blue Ridge while it all happens.
This is the Morocco I grew up in, in Fes. For one night it’s yours.
