GrizzlyMan Adventure Race

GrizzlyMan Adventure Race The GrizzlyMan Adventure Race (GMAR) is Montana's longest running adventure race. Registration for the 2012 GMAR will open on December 1st!

The 5th Annual GrizzlyMan Adventure Race and Black Bear Challenge, brought to you by The Rocky Mountaineers, is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012! We have a few more surprises for this next installment, so we hope you’re already training! Again, the GMAR will start at 5:00am and will have a 12 hour time cut-off, teams (of 2 or 3) will be put to the ultimate navigation and endurance test! This

time, teams will first be ranked by points (different checkpoints will count for different point values) and secondly, on finish time. Teams with excellent navigation and “on the fly” route finding skills will finish well. Again, there will be two separate races. The GrizzlyMan Adventure Race will be a qualifier for 2012 USARA Nationals! The Black Bear Challenge will be a less intense 8 hour course for racers interested in an introduction to adventure racing. The Black Bear will start at 9 am, have the same format as the GMAR, but will not include paddling or water navigation. Both races are sanctioned USARA events. The race will take place at the 28,000 acre Lubrecht Experimental Forest and the 37,000 acre Resort at Paws Up. Nestled in the mountains of western Montana and situated 30 miles northeast of Missoula, this rugged landscape will provide a challenging venue to racers of all skill levels. Racers should plan on being prepared to trail run, orienteer, trek off-trail, mountain bike (on and off-trail) and whitewater paddle (GMAR only) their way through the course.
