Utah Hidden Gem this week: Grotto Falls, tucked inside Payson Canyon on the Nebo Scenic Loop.

From Nephi, you are looking at about 35 to 40 miles north and roughly 45 to 60 minutes depending on your route and where road conditions stand. It is a short enough drive that you could pair it with a night at Payson Lakes Campground and make a real trip out of it.

The hike itself is about 0.6 miles round trip, mostly level, through forest to a small waterfall set in a natural alcove. Stream crossings, tall trees, and a finish that is worth every step. Little kids can handle it. That is not a guarantee most Utah hikes can make.

A couple of things worth knowing before you go. The canyon road is narrow and winding, so plan to park the trailer at your campsite and drive the tow vehicle to the trailhead. Trailhead parking is limited and you do not want to find that out after pulling a 30-foot rig up there. Also, conditions on the Nebo Loop change fast in October. Check current road status with the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest before you head up, and verify any active fire or access restrictions directly with the forest service. We do not want you driving an hour to find the road closed.

Wednesday shoutout goes to Remember Your Memories right here in Nephi.

When we needed business cards and marketing materials, they were the ones we called. Good work, fair turnaround, and people who actually care about what they put their name on. That is the kind of local business that makes a difference when you are trying to build something from the ground up.

Tip Tuesday. This one is quick but it matters.

Before you flip on the water heater, make sure it is actually full of water first. Firing the electric element dry can burn it out in seconds. Literally. And a replacement element is a headache you do not want on a camping trip.

Here is the order: fill your fresh water tank or hook up to a water source, open a hot water tap somewhere inside the trailer, and let it run until you get a steady stream with no air sputtering out. That tells you the tank is full. Then, and only then, switch the water heater on.

If you are on city water at a campground, the same rule applies. Open a tap first, let the air clear, then turn on the heater.

Tip Tuesday Part 2. This one is simple but a lot of people skip it until something goes wrong.

Keep a separate hose just for fresh water. White hose, drinking-water rated, only ever touches the fresh water inlet. Never use it for anything else.

Then have a second hose for flushing tanks. Different color, different spot in your storage bay, and you always know which is which.

Cross-contaminating those two is a bad day. The fix is cheap: a white drinking-water hose runs about $20 to $30 at any hardware store. Mark it, store it separately, and you never have to think about it again.

Meet the Springdale.

This is a family travel trailer built for a real trip. Roomier layout, comfortable for a crew, and $130 a night. It is Basecamp-eligible, which means if you want it delivered and set up in Southern Utah without towing anything, that option is on the table. Basecamp puts you at Sevier River RV Park in Marysvale, about 90 minutes from Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.

Self-pickup is out of Nephi. Drew handles the dump, so you are not dealing with that at the end of the trip.

Protection Plan is $20 a night, up to $140 per trip. Minimum age to rent is 21.

Meet Blue Spruce.

This is a 2023 Wayfinder Go Play 26BHS. 26 feet, sleeps 6 to 8, two full-size bunkbeds, a slide-out, and the newest trailer in our fleet. $130 a night.

If you have a crew that needs real sleeping room without hauling something massive, Blue Spruce is the one. The layout is built for families: adults get a real bed, the kids have bunkbeds that actually fit them, and the slide-out opens the living space up so it does not feel like everyone is stacked on top of each other.

Blue Spruce is Basecamp-eligible, so if you want the trailer delivered and set up in Southern Utah with no towing on your end, that option is there. Otherwise, self-pickup is out of Nephi.
