Rusty Thomas Event Designs was born by serendipity 28 years ago. After arranging flowers and the theme for my best friend's birthday party, it was suggested that I should do it for a living. He arranged for my first event to take place at the Museum of Modern Art for their annual trustee's dinner--a western theme. Subsequently, I was in charge of the flowers and parties for New York's only five-st

ar hotel at the time, the legendary Carlyle Hotel. In 1992 Rusty Thomas Event Designs was awarded all 18 official events for the 1992 Democratic National Convention, including Grand Central Station and Madison Square Garden.

Before the Carlyle, I did a two-month stint for New York's most famous designer, Robert Isabell. It was only for two jobs. This one being the Victorian Christmas in the ultra-modern space of IBM Headquarters, New York. So many elements but this one focuses on The Wreath. Look at the grand piano to understand the scale. It's made of two things, red velvet ribbons and bittersweet vine. Astounding.

Being from Anson County, I need to look up the connection to Anson County, NC, via Lady Elizabeth Anson (Shakerley). This was a lovely cocktail party at her place for 28 guests. Two years later, I remember a huge mess when she was suddenly dismissed and Robert Isabel was put in charge (in under 3-weeks $$$$$$$) to produce the wedding of Crown Prince Pavlos & Marie-Chantel of Greece.

In the tri-state area of NY/NJ/PA, there is nobody---and I mean NOBODY---who understands what it takes to pull of an off-site event like Max Hansen and his staff. It is difficult/stressful because of the time frame for a 6 hours job, but Max Hansen and his team always, always makes it happens. (not very fond of the music in this video, but the details are always superlative).
