🍂 Fall might just be the best time to visit Badin Lake! 🍂

The summer crowds start to thin out, the air gets cooler, and before long the trees around the lake will be putting on their fall colors. It’s the perfect weather for getting outside—or doing absolutely nothing on the porch. 🍁

🐓 The Coop at Badin Lake still has fall availability and makes a great getaway for families or a group of friends. Spend your days kayaking, fishing, hiking nearby trails, cruising around the resort on the included golf cart, or just relaxing and enjoying the lake view from the porch.

Back on an old favorite today — the Birkhead Mountain Trail. 🥾

It had been a while since I’d hiked this one, but over the years I’ve done it more times than I can count. At roughly 11.3 miles, it’s probably still my favorite longer day hike in the Uwharries. I wandered a little extra today and finished with 12.27 miles and about 1,200 feet of elevation gain. I was hoping to knock it out in under four hours, but my feet had other plans, and it ended up taking me closer to four and a half.

Along the way I met Bruce from the Uwharrie Trailblazers and had the chance to hike with him for a little while. He was an absolute wealth of knowledge about the trails and the area. A big thank-you to Bruce and everyone with the Trailblazers for all the work they put into maintaining these trails. The trail was in great shape today, as it almost always is.

One thing worth noting if you’re heading out soon: conditions are still very dry despite the recent storms, so plan accordingly.

Great afternoon on one of my longtime favorites—and a good reminder of just how many miles of great hiking we have right here in the Uwharries.

Summer doesn’t have to be over just yet. ☀️

September might be one of the best times to sneak away to Badin Lake — warm days, lower humidity, fewer crowds, and plenty of time left to enjoy the lake.

A few September weekends are still available, with plenty of midweek availability at all three Badin Lake Escapes properties.

Spend the day on the water, cruise around Badin Shores, relax by the pool, or just slow down and enjoy a few days away.
