A giraffe named Gracie escaped a ranch near Leakey on June 12. She cleared an eight-foot gate, climbed up a limestone slab none of the other giraffes had ever bothered with, and disappeared into the Hill Country.

That was two weeks ago. Since then there have been helicopters, drones, a $5,000 reward, and a sheriff who will tell you he has lost wildebeests, water buffalo, monkeys and zebras out here, but never a giraffe.

We have a theory about why she's been so hard to find. She isn't running from anything. Somewhere out there is a place with a pool, a hot tub, and room for fourteen, and we think she's holding out for it.

It's also five bedrooms with room for all twelve of you, a beach fifty feet off the porch, a golf cart, and a master that opens onto the pool deck ... the same house Airbnb lists for more than a thousand dollars more the exact same week, markup and all.
