CARVART | 30 YEARS
FROM GLASS TO ARCHITECTURE

As CARVART continued to grow within the residential market, the work was still centered on carved and etched glass, defined by craft and controlled production. The systems being built were internal, developed to support customization and scale, but the application remained largely decorative.

That began to shift through an early collaboration with Berger Rait, later renamed BR Design. The ask was straightforward. Design a set of sliding glass doors for an office. At the time, interior glass partition systems were not yet established as a category. There was no standard solution to rely on, no clear precedent for how these elements should function within a workspace.

The response was not to invent something entirely new, but to adapt what already existed. Storefront components were reworked for interior use. Slimmer mullions were sourced and applied beyond their intended purpose. Hardware typically used for wood doors was integrated into glass. CARVART glass became the defining layer that tied the system together.

What was created solved the immediate need, but it also introduced a new way of thinking about the material.

That first installation led to additional opportunities, including early commercial projects such as Warner Music, where glass was no longer treated as a decorative element, but as part of the architecture itself. It began to define boundaries, manage light, and shape how space was organized and experienced.

At the same time, the visual language evolved. Sandblasting remained central, but the expression shifted. Patterns became more restrained, more aligned with contemporary interiors. What had been developed for residential environments was recontextualized for commercial applications, extending the same techniques into a different scale and purpose.

This period did not mark a departure from craft, but an expansion of it.

Glass was no longer only something applied to a space. It became something that could structure it.

Precision fabricated and finished to align with the surrounding metal palette, the doors bring warmth, rhythm, and permanence to the façade. From the grand entrance canopy to the ornamental gates and bespoke exterior doors, each component was conceived as part of one cohesive architectural vision. Through engineering discipline, advanced fabrication, and carefully developed finishes, CARVART helped shape an exterior identity that feels enduring, elevated, and distinctly New York.

The result is a landmark residential address where every threshold reflects permanence, proportion, and the value of thoughtful design.

CARVART | 30 YEARS
The Brooklyn Years

If the foundation was generational, Brooklyn is where it became a company.

In 1996, while still in college, Edward Geyman began developing the name, identity, and early vision for CARVART. What had existed as his father’s small residential glass business started to take on a new structure, one that was more defined, more intentional, and built for growth. This factory (pictured) would become more than just a place of production. It would become the birthplace of CARVART.

The early focus was decorative carved and etched glass panels produced for the residential market. Through window and door dealers, homeowners could select from CARVART catalog binders, choosing patterns, shapes, privacy levels, backgrounds, and other design options. Each piece was custom, but the system behind it allowed the work to scale while still staying rooted in craftsmanship.

Brooklyn became the proving ground for that work. The shop environment was hands on, technical, and immediate. Every order required direct labor, precision, and problem solving in real time. This was not yet large scale architectural systems, but the discipline behind the work was already there.

As the company grew, the work began to expand beyond decorative residential applications. CARVART moved into more modern environments, including corporate interiors and specified projects, while continuing to refine its understanding of glass as both a material and a system.

These years matter because they mark the shift from inherited trade to intentional company. The foundation was still craftsmanship, but the direction was widening.

This was not yet the company at full scale.

But it was where CARVART took shape, where the model became real, and where the standards behind the work were built piece by piece.
