Casapueblo, Uruguay.

Designed by Carlos Páez Vilaró in 1958, the whitewashed cement and stucco building takes inspiration from the nest of the hornero, a native bird that builds heavy clay nests. The pointed spires of the building also serve as lightning conductors, deflecting the wild electric summer storms from the South Atlantic.

In his words — “Rarely in our busy lives is there an opportunity to be idle. We’re productive all the time, between work and play, family and life, there’s always something in the diary to do. But Sundays aren’t about making the most of our time off, they’re about stopping completely. So cooking breakfast on a slow Sunday, I try to lean into idleness.

The recipe I designed for Idle Hands is designed to be started on Saturday evening, forcing you to slow down and languish in free time without feeling like you need to make use of it. It’s inspired by lazy mornings in a hotel room, where all you have to do is order room service. Or a whole day spent in pyjamas, pottering around the house. It’s a moment of calm in our overly chaotic lives, all you need to do is allow yourself to enjoy the idleness...”
