Tapabento is tucked away on a narrow cobblestone street alongside the São Bento train station in Porto. This charming tapas restaurant offers a wide variety of home-cooked food, served in a warm and welcoming ambiance. The easiest way to find the restaurant is to look for the crowd of people standing in the street to the left of the train station entrance, as they are most likely waiting for a table to open up! https://bit.ly/4nPImyt

Historic Besalú is one of Catalonia’s best preserved villages, and is 1.5 hours north of Barcelona (30 min. north of Girona). It is a quintessential Medieval village with a Romanesque arched bridge at the entrance to the Old Town, narrow cobblestone streets and charming houses built from brick and stone. The oldest remains found in town date back to 650-600 BC, and in Roman times it became a prosperous urban center in the region. It was also an important Jewish settlement and is known for having a well preserved Jewish Quarter with a restored 12th C. mikveh (ritual purification bathhouse). https://bit.ly/4uqL7bY

Barcelos is a charming medieval walled town in the northern Minho region of Portugal that is located about 45 minutes north of Porto. It has long been a center for artisanal handicrafts and the figurado style of pottery that features comical figurines with accentuated features, representing traditional farmers, folk musicians and nativity scene characters.

Barcelos is best known for the ornamental rooster figure – the Galo de Barcelos – that originated here and is the unofficial national icon of the country. https://bit.ly/4dnuy9A

Enjoy a self-guided tour through the Albaicín Granada’s oldest Arab quarter that dates back to the 13th C. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was a prosperous area that was the hub for the city’s Moorish inhabitants, filled with a slew of palaces and villas (cármenes). It is considered one of the most charming neighborhoods in all of Andalucía, and it is a great place to take in the stunning views of the Alhambra.

We mapped out a walking tour route below that will help you explore the many treasures of this vibrant community with a unique character. The route itself takes about 45 minutes to complete, but if you allow time for shopping, having some tapas or a meal, you can easily spend 2-3 hours just enjoying the adventure of taking a step back in time.

The Mercado do Bolhão is the most important municipal market in Porto. It opened in 1914 in a two-story building with a neoclassical facade, and it was the place that locals visited to purchase their everyday provisions.

Today the bustling market has over 70 stalls that sell a wide variety of items, including the traditional staples such as fish, cured meats, local cheeses, vegetables, and fruits. The vibrant market is a great place to explore the traditional products from family businesses, enjoy some tasty baked goods, sample some of the local wines, and purchase handicrafts made by local artisans.
