Wow I can’t believe I haven’t posted about this yet! I had the absolute PLEASURE of working with my fav twin designer duo .abene on a costume for the off-broadway production of . I had the honor of taking on the concept of “the devil”, a Robert Wun inspired white pleated masterpiece. I made this look in two sizes, one for the main actor and one for the swing who was a slightly different size. I also made 3 beaded hat pieces which were a super fun challenge for me! Now she does millinery work oKayy! and .the.juls I am so ready for our next collab!!

This week I had a really fun collaboration with Woof Pet for their pop up in the city launching their new “meaty” HonestChew dog toys! They tasked me with making a “meat dress” out of the toys which was equal parts incredibly fun and incredibly gross 🤣. These toys are coated in a meat paste which sounds like the best possible dog toy, and the bone underneath is a non-nylon no-splinter bone made from antlers. Since it was my daughter’s spring break and because of shipping, I had about 36 hours to build the dress once the toys arrived. Swipe to see the process! The final look includes about 150 toys of various sizes and is held together by wire and 600 zip ties!

LOVE seeing photos of the finished basketball look for and that I worked on with at the very beginning of January. Ami and I worked very long hours for 9 days in NYC to produce these looks. I worked on all three but this one was my baby. I built the shapes out of cardboard and plastic boning, then draped and created the pattern of each section. I then cut the pattern out in plastic mesh and created boning channels within all the seams. We custom printed basketball patterned fabric locally and placed batting between the mesh and the final fabric. Shout out to who came in halfway through to assist sewing all these pattern pieces together so I could focus on pattern making and cutting out pieces, as well as the Baton Rouge team and Ami who finished this look on location. We had a moving target for our work time, and normally I would have loved to have had at least 4 weeks to complete something like this, not to mention ALSO doing the other two looks at the same time! It was such an effort but one of the coolest projects I have had the pleasure to be a part of.

Here is the full 30 second commercial of the incredible Flau’Jae Johnson, LSU basketball star. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with the incredible on the build for this commercial. Ami worked so hard on getting the designs just right before we even started building. She and I worked together for 9 long days getting these three looks together, and then Ami quickly built a team out in Louisiana to finish them in 3 more days after a fitting. This build challenged me to the max and forced me to try and do my very best work as fast as possible. We worked very long days with no breaks right after Christmas (10 hour days, then 12, then…so many hour days with no sleep😭) but we made it happen. Ami, you are such a dream to work with, and I feel so honored that you continue to trust my skills and invite me into the best projects. Let’s do some more!!

Baby’s first build for a national commercial! I did all the patterning and most of the work on this basketball outfit for Samsung. Keep an eye out for a few more looks, and possibly a Super Bowl commercial spot!

The other gorgeous look I built for the short film was this beautiful look that , who also co-wrote this movie, wore as Lela. originally asked me to swatch metallic silvers and golds to the fabric, and I accidentally didn’t pay attention to those directions at first and brought her a swatch of this fabric. She ended up falling in love, and so we went with it and I used an original 1960s vintage pattern as my base for the construction. The final dress turned out stunning, and Sol was just gorgeous in it.

One year ago I was working on my first movie! I had the pleasure of assisting in costuming the short film Villa Encanto starring the gorgeous . Laura had a vision for two dresses for this period piece, this one being an incredible yellow lace and tulle floofy early 1960s dream. I loved making this dress as well as watching Adriana shine and really become the character of Teresa in this look.

I had the incredible opportunity to speak at my daughter’s school last week with a panel of other women in the arts. I spoke about the highs and lows of both of my careers (graphic design and fashion design) and how best to navigate the arts as a woman. My best advice? Never stop learning. You’ll never know it all, keep being curious and pushing yourself!
