We knew the moment we found this stained glass that we had to save it. What we didn’t know… was how we’d recreate nearly half of it. Would you have mirrored the top half or designed something entirely new? šŸ¤Ž Follow along!

This reel perfectly sums up this entire project. šŸ˜‚ While the rest of the building has come so far, the third floor still feels like it’s taking forever. Removing what feels like a hundred layers of paint from the original shutters and woodwork has been one of the most time-consuming parts of this entire restoration. Slowly… but it’s getting there. šŸ¤Ž

Who knew one countertop would end up deciding an entire kitchenette? ā˜ŗļø Once we found this verde butterfly granite, the cabinet color became obvious. (The girls immediately fell in love with the name Butterfly. šŸ˜‚šŸ¦‹) We knew these kitchenettes would be compact because of the building’s original layout, so I wanted them to have just enough presence to stand alongside all the beautiful original woodwork without taking away from it. Pairing it with Preference Red by ended up being exactly the balance we were hoping for, and I have to say… they make me smile every single time I walk into one of these rooms. šŸ¤Ž

The details we fell in love with and we refused to lose. We can’t wait to show you how we’re repurposing the original doors ā˜ŗļøšŸ¤Ž

Finally… the kitchenettes are DONE šŸ˜šŸ¤Ž

Two years ago we stood inside this building terrified thinking we had just made the biggest mistake of our lives. Now this beautiful historic guesthouse is almost ready to welcome her first guests again.

Since I was 7 years old, I dreamed of becoming an actress. That dream is what brought me to New York 12 years ago. Never in a million years did I think I’d end up helping restore an 1880s guesthouse. There were so many moments over the last two years when I caught myself thinking… who am I to be doing this? I’m not an architect. I’m not a designer. I’m not a contractor.

Today, all 11 kitchenettes are finally complete and standing here looking around this breathtaking old historic NYC landmark, I was reminded of something I’d forgotten lately… you don’t have to feel ready before you begin. Sometimes you become the person for the job because you refuse to give up.

And somehow… I think she’s been restoring me too šŸ¤Ž

The strange thing about dreams is that you rarely notice the moment you’re actually living one.

You spend so much time trying to get there and then one day you look around and think…When did all of this happen?

For two years it always felt like there was another permit to wait on, another deadline to meet, another expense to figure out, another problem to solve. Somewhere along the way, I forgot to notice we were already living the dream we had worked so hard for.

It made me wonder how often we postpone appreciating our lives because we’re waiting for them to become easier.

Maybe the life we’re rushing through today is the chapter we’ll one day wish we had slowed down enough to notice.

Because one day you’ll look around and ask…

When did all of this happen? šŸ¤Ž

Two years ago we stood inside this empty 1880s NYC guesthouse and imagined something that didn’t exist yet…

A place where people could stay inside a piece of history.

It took longer than we thought.
It was harder than we imagined.

But 11 rooms, 11 kitchenettes, and thousands of decisions later…The vision we saw on day one is coming to life. šŸ¤Ž

Follow along as we bring Halsey back.
