For a long time, the word elope had a very specific meaning. You pictured a couple running off in secret, tying the knot at a courthouse, and calling their families after the fact.

That’s not really what eloping looks like anymore.

Today, eloping is simply an intentional choice to step away from a 150-person guest list and focus entirely on the two of you. It isn’t about stripping away the magic of a wedding. It’s about keeping the parts that matter and letting go of the rest. You can still wear the dress, carry a gorgeous bouquet, hire a photographer, cut a custom cake, and toast with ch*****ne. You can even bring your parents or a few best friends along.

Our perfect fall day on the Sunrise Side 🍂

Start by waking up early enough to catch the sunrise over Lake Huron — because coming to Huron House and leaving without at least one sunrise photo feels a little wrong.

Then it’s breakfast delivered to your room with the lake still in view before heading out to Lumberman’s Monument for a fall walk.

Pro tip: once you reach the scenic overlook and the pavement ends, keep going to the right onto the sand dunes. The view over the Au Sable River and surrounding trees is worth the extra few steps.

After that, warm up with a drink and a quick bite at Sunrise Kava before heading back to Huron House for a mid-afternoon nap. Vacation rules.

As evening arrives, head into Tawas for dinner at The Boathouse — but don’t linger too long. Dessert, a hot tub, and a fireplace are waiting back at Huron House.

That’s our kind of fall day.

Arrive. Pour a glass of w**e and settle in by the lake. Soak in the hot tub as the afternoon fades. Dessert arrives just in time for a quiet evening by the fire, followed by a trip down to the fire pits under the stars.
