Society of Women in Urology - SWIU The Society of Women in Urology (SWIU) has more than 650 members comprised of female urologists as well as female urology residents

The Society of Women in Urology (SWIU), formerly known just as “Women in Urology,” informally began at the 1980 AUA meeting in San Francisco, when five female urologists met for breakfast to discuss their experiences and frustrations. Such informal meetings continued until 1992, when the group created an executive board and introduced bylaws. SWIU now has more than 650 members, including over 250

board-certified female urologists, as well as female urology residents, fellows, post-residency, pre-board-certified women. SWIU also has female members who are non-urology MDs and PhDs.

February 3rd will mark the 195th birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in America. By taking these first courageous steps forward, Blackwell opened the door for women to enter the field of medicine - a career that had previously been inaccessible to females. Happy National Women Physician Day!
