15 DAYS UNTIL FALL AT HORSESHOE!

Here is today's view from the recreation field as we continue Watching Fall Arrive at Horseshoe!

There isn't much fall color to report yet. The mountain is still wearing plenty of summer green, but we're watching closely. ๐Ÿƒ

So, what exactly is Fall at Horseshoe?

The regular camping season at Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground ends September 13. This year, YLA is hosting a special event that will keep the campground open a little longer, from September 14 through October 5, 2026.

That means you have a few extra weeks to enjoy camping at Horseshoe as summer begins giving way to fall. ๐Ÿ‚

And there's something different about camping during this special event: all 21 campsites can be reserved in advance, including our primitive and walk-in sites. During our regular camping season, many of those sites are first come, first served.

Over the next 15 days, I'll be sharing more about Horseshoe, our campsites, things to do while you're here, a little history, and what you need to know if you're thinking about joining us for Fall at Horseshoe.

And, of course, we'll keep taking this same picture so we can watch fall arrive together.

Have you ever camped at Horseshoe in the fall?

LABOR DAY WEEKEND AT HORSESHOE ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Thinking about spending Labor Day Weekend at Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground? Hereโ€™s what you need to know before you head our way!

Reserved Campsites

Horseshoe has 21 campsites. Our 6 campsites that can be reserved in advance are fully reserved for the entire Labor Day Weekend, with one exception:

Site 12 is available Sunday night and can still be reserved.

๐ŸŒฒ First-Come, First-Served Campsites

All of our other campsites are first come, first served. (Electric sites 1-6 and 13, Primitive sites with parking pad 14-18, and walk in sites 19 - 21)

If you would like to know what is available before making the drive to Horseshoe, send us a message through the Horseshoe page or give us a call. We are happy to let you know what is open at that time.

Please remember that we cannot hold or take advance reservations for a first-come, first-served campsite.

However, you CAN come to Horseshoe and secure an available site by paying the Camp Host. You may also send someone with payment on your behalf. You do not have to set up your tent, camper, or other camping equipment when you pay. Once payment is received, we will turn the campsite placard to RESERVED for you.

โš ๏ธ Here is the important part:

Your camping fee begins the day you secure the site, not the day you plan to arrive with your camping equipment.

For example, if you come to Horseshoe on Wednesday and pay for an available first-come, first-served site, but you are not bringing your tent or camper until Thursday, you will still pay for Wednesday night.

You cannot come Wednesday and prepay for a first-come, first-served site beginning Thursday or Friday. To secure the site Wednesday, your stay begins Wednesday.

Once you have paid, that campsite is yours from that day through the final day you have paid for it.

We know Labor Day Weekend can be busy, so feel free to message or call us before you make the drive to check what is currently available. Availability can change quickly and is not guaranteed until payment is made on site.

We look forward to seeing everyone spending the holiday weekend at Horseshoe! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ

16 DAYS UNTIL FALL AT HORSESHOE!

Fall at Horseshoe begins September 14, and weโ€™re counting down by doing something a little different this year. Weโ€™re going to watch fall arrive at Horseshoe together!

Starting today, Iโ€™ll be taking a picture from the recreation field looking toward the mountain and sharing the view on the Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground page. As the days go by, weโ€™ll be able to watch the greens slowly give way to the beautiful colors of fall.

Once Fall at Horseshoe begins, our countdown will turn into a Fall Foliage Watch, and Iโ€™ll keep sharing the view as the colors change.

If youโ€™ve been thinking about a fall camping trip to Horseshoe, now is a great time to make your plans. Fall at Horseshoe runs September 14 through October 5, 2026, and during this special event, all 21 campsites can be reserved in advance.

LOST & FOUND AT HORSESHOE ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿงฆ๐Ÿพ

Are you missing something after your visit to Horseshoe Recreation Area and Campground?

Our Lost & Found collection has been growing! We have shoes, clothing, towels, a dog harness, and quite a few other things that have been left behind.

We know there must be at least one small child walking around shoeless right now...and apparently a few other folks who went home with only ONE shoe! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Rather than posting pictures of the items, we would love to get them back to their rightful owners.

If you think you may have left something behind while camping, enjoying the day use area, playing in the creek, hiking the trails, or visiting Horseshoe, send us a message and describe what you are missing. We will check our Lost & Found and see if we have it!

And if you made it all the way home before realizing something didn't make the trip with you, don't worry. You definitely aren't the only one! โค๏ธ

Help us reunite these lost treasures with their owners!

WE HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU...

UPDATE: FALL CAMPING AT HORSESHOE!
Thank you to everyone who commented and told us you would be interested in camping at Horseshoe this fall. You asked, and we listened!
Fall at Horseshoe is happening September 14 through October 4!
This is a special event hosted by YLA at Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground and is separate from the regular Forest Service camping season.
If you're interested in joining us, you can find all the details and submit a campsite request using the link below:
๐Ÿ‘‰ https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSe997ro.../viewform...
We appreciate everyone who encouraged us to give fall camping at Horseshoe a try, and we hope to see many of you this fall!

Every year as our regular camping season starts winding down, we hear the same thing:

โ€œI wish Horseshoe stayed open a little longer!โ€

And we understand why.

Fall is such a beautiful time in Tucker County, and one weekend in particular has us thinking...

LEAF PEEPERS WEEKEND!

So we want to hear from you.

If you could camp at Horseshoe during Leaf Peepers Weekend, would you?

Would you make Horseshoe your base camp while you enjoy Leaf Peepers and everything happening around Tucker County?

Would you spend the day exploring and then come back to Horseshoe for a cool fall evening around the campfire?

Or maybe you've always wanted to see what Horseshoe looks like as the leaves begin to change.

๐Ÿ‘€ We're asking for a reason...

But we're not quite ready to tell you why just yet!

For now, tell us in the comments:

๐Ÿ‘‡ Would YOU camp at Horseshoe for Leaf Peepers Weekend if you had the chance?

And if you've experienced fall at Horseshoe before, we'd love to hear about that too.

๐Ÿ Stay tuned. We may have some news to share next week!

22 DAYS LEFT IN OUR REGULAR CAMPING SEASON!

We're counting down the days, and as we get closer to our Fall at Horseshoe Preview Weekend, we need your help planning a little fun!

๐Ÿ”ฅ Friday, September 11 from 5:00โ€“8:30 PM, we're having S'mores & Game Night at the Pavilion.

We'll have a fire going in the fireplace, s'mores over the grill, and tables ready for games.

Now we need to know...

๐ŸŽฒ WHAT DO YOU WANT TO PLAY?

Checkers?

Chinese Checkers?

Dominoes?

UNO?

Phase 10?

Playing cards?

A favorite board game?

Something else we haven't thought of?

Tell us in the comments! If you have a favorite board or card game, we want to hear what it is. We're putting together our game selection now, and your answers may help us decide what to have waiting on the tables.

And remember, you do not have to be camping with us to join the fun!

Campers, neighbors, past visitors, local families, or anyone who just wants to stop by Horseshoe for the evening are welcome.

Come play a game, make a s'more, sit around the fire, or just stop in and say hello.

๐Ÿ 22 days left in the regular season...let's have some fun with them!

๐Ÿ‘‡ So tell us: What game would you want to play at the pavilion?
