❤️ THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL 2026 SEASON AT HORSESHOE! ❤️

As we close the gates on another season at Horseshoe, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to camp, visit, hike, picnic, and enjoy the recreation area with us this year.

This was our third season as Camp Hosts at Horseshoe, and once again, the people we met and the memories we made were our favorite part of the season.

We welcomed so many wonderful campers—from first-time visitors to familiar faces who return year after year. We watched families gather for reunions, celebrated weddings, and saw friends and families spending time together and making memories at Horseshoe.

We made new friends, welcomed back old friends, and enjoyed evenings gathered around the campground-wide campfires at the Camp Host site with s’mores, hot chocolate, laughter, stories, and good conversation.

Those are the moments that make a season at Horseshoe so special to us. ❤️

Whether you stayed for one night, spent a week camping, came for a family gathering or special event, or simply visited the recreation area for the day, thank you for spending part of your 2026 season with us.

Now it is time to close out our third season and start looking forward to our fourth!

🏕️ Horseshoe will reopen for the 2027 season on May 10, 2027!

We are already looking forward to coming back for our fourth season as Camp Hosts, seeing so many familiar faces again, meeting new campers, and making even more memories around the campground.

Until then, have a wonderful fall and winter. Thank you for making our third season at Horseshoe one we will remember!

🍂 One Last Fall Weekend at Horseshoe! 🍁

The fall colors are finally starting to peek through around Horseshoe Campground & Recreation Area — just in time for our final weekend of the season!

We have loved seeing so many people enjoying Horseshoe this past week. From campers settling in around their campsites to families spending the day in the recreation area, hiking the trails, and gathering around the campfire with us at the camp host site, it has been a wonderful way to wrap up the season. ❤️

And we’re not finished quite yet!

🏕️ Our last night of camping is Sunday night, and we still have some electric and primitive campsites available for anyone looking for a last-minute fall getaway.

Not able to camp? Come spend the day with us! Pack a picnic, take a walk on one of our trails, enjoy the beginnings of the fall color, and spend a little time outdoors before the season comes to an end.

🍂 ONE MORE WEEKEND AT HORSESHOE! 🍂

It’s hard to believe, but we’re down to our last week of camping at Horseshoe Campground for the 2026 season!

The trees are beginning to change, the nights are getting cooler, and fall is starting to settle into the campground. 🍁🏕️ It’s a beautiful time to be at Horseshoe—and we’d love to have you join us as we say goodbye to another camping season.

📅 Our final night of camping is Saturday, October 4 with checkout on Monday October October 5 at noon.

There’s still time to plan one last camping trip! Bring your camper, gather around the campfire, enjoy the cooler evenings, and spend a little time surrounded by the changing leaves.

And depending on the weather, we’re hoping to have a few special activities throughout the weekend to help us celebrate our final weekend together. We’ll share more as we get closer!

THE SEASON IS OVER… BUT NOT REALLY!

The regular Forest Service camping season at Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground has officially come to a close.

But this year, we aren’t quite ready to say goodbye!

The Ohio-West Virginia YLA is testing something new by keeping the campground open for three additional weeks as a special fall camping event.

And we are already off to a GREAT start!

Our goal is to have 80–100 camping nights during these three weeks to show there is enough interest in extending the camping season.

We already have 36 camping nights reserved!

With 21 campsites and three weeks to enjoy them, we think reaching that goal is very possible — and we would love for you to be part of it.

So pack up the camper, grab the tent, bring your favorite sweatshirt and come spend a few fall days with us at Horseshoe.

Enjoy cool evenings around the campfire, peaceful days along Horseshoe Run, and a front-row seat as the mountain views surrounding the recreation area begin changing from summer green to beautiful fall color.

And for this special event, ALL 21 campsites are available to reserve! That means you can choose your site ahead of time instead of waiting to see what is available when you arrive.

Every night camped during these three weeks gets us a little closer to our goal and helps us see just how much interest there is in fall camping at Horseshoe.

Want to reserve a primitive campsite at Horseshoe this fall? For a few weeks, you can!

If you've camped at Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground in the Monongahela National Forest before, you may know that our primitive campsites are normally first come, first served during the regular camping season.

But we're doing something different this fall.

Fall at Horseshoe is a special trial camping event running from September 14 through October 5, 2026, with the last camping night October 4.

And during this special event, our primitive campsites can be reserved in advance!

Most of our primitive sites sit along Horseshoe Run, giving you a beautiful creekside place to set up camp. You'll hear the water running, spend your evenings under the trees, and if you're lucky, you might even catch sight of one of our eagles coming down to the creek to fish for dinner.

A few of the sites are walk-in sites, too, for those who prefer to carry their gear in and tuck themselves a little farther away.

Fall is just beginning to show itself here in the mountains. The first leaves are changing, the evenings are getting cooler, and September can be a beautiful time to experience Horseshoe.

This extended season is a trial event, and the response will help determine whether camping later into September and early fall is something that may be offered again in the future.

So, if you've ever wished you could reserve your favorite primitive spot at Horseshoe instead of hoping it's available when you arrive, this is your chance.

We looked at our page today and realized there are now 505 of you following Horseshoe Recreation Area & Campground!

We wish we had written down how many followers we had when the camping season started because we know this little community has grown quite a bit this year. But whether you've been following us for years or just found our page this summer, we're so glad you're here.

One of the reasons we have worked so hard on this page is because we want more people to know about Horseshoe Recreation Area and Campground.

We want you to know when camping season begins, when campsites are available, what's happening at the recreation area, and about special opportunities like Fall at Horseshoe.

But we also want to share the things that make this place so special — Horseshoe Run flowing through the campground, wildlife wandering through, the history found throughout the recreation area, quiet mornings, families making memories together, and sometimes just a really beautiful sunset.
