What a beautiful day!
Today, we celebrated 175 years of Mountain Lake and while the milestone itself is remarkable, what made the day truly special was sharing it with so many familiar faces, longtime guests, neighbors, and friends of the Mountain.
From childhood vacations and wedding anniversaries to family reunions, summer adventures, and generations of traditions, we were honored to hear so many stories from those who have made Mountain Lake a part of their lives.
We welcomed locals, longtime guests, community leaders, business owners, visitors, and families whose connections to this Mountain span decades. We shared memories, celebrated milestones, and reflected on the people and moments that have helped shape Mountain Lake’s story.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Mountain Lake Lodge staff, the Mary Moody Northen Endowment and present Board, MJ and Laura, Stephanie from Historic Hotels of America, Giles County, Virginia Administrator Chris McKlarney, Patrick Lloyd from Newport Volunteer Rescue Squad and everyone who joined us for this special celebration!
Perhaps the most meaningful part of the day was the energy. The stories shared, the memories revisited through photo albums, and the connections made reminded us that Mountain Lake has always been more than a destination. For many, it has been a tradition, a gathering place, a backdrop for life’s biggest moments, and even a second home.
As we listened to your stories today, one thing became clear: the history of Mountain Lake isn’t found only in photographs, buildings, or milestones. It’s found in the people who have loved this place across generations.
Thank you for helping us celebrate, remember, and honor 175 years of history, hospitality, and heart.
Here’s to the last 175 years and to all the memories made, traditions shared, and stories still waiting to be told on this Mountain!✨
